Der United States Geological Survey kartierte ihn anhand eigener Vermessungen und Luftaufnahmen der United States Navy aus den Jahren von 1959 bis 1965. Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte ihn nach Richard Riley Farbo (* 1933), Geräteführer bei der US Navy, der im Rahmen dreier Kampagnen der Operation Deep Freeze 1959 und 1965 auf der McMurdo-Station sowie 1969 auf der Amundsen-Scott-Südpolstation überwinterte. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs, 1959–65, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for , a U.S. Navy equipment operator who wintered-over in Antarctica on three expeditions of Operation Deep Freeze. He was at McMurdo Station in 1959 and 1965, and the South Pole Station in 1969. (en)
