Reid, Andrew Reding, Andrew Moravcsik, Mark Leonard, Jeremy Rifkin, John McCormick and some politicians such as Romano Prodi and Tony Blair. They believe that the EU is a superpower, or will become one, in the 21st century – while noting that the concept of "superpower" has changed to one of soft power rather than the hard (military) superpowers of the 20th century. - L'analyse de l'Union européenne comme superpuissance émergente désigne l'ensemble des analyses interdisciplinaires traitant de l'application de la notion de la puissance dans le cas de l'Union européenne. Cette question présente deux deux ambiguïtés notaires ; à savoir les différentes interprétations du concept de « puissance » (géopolitique, diplomatique, économique, militaire, etc.) et la qualification de la nature de l'Union européenne en droit international. Ainsi, alors que certains analystes, tel que (en), qualifient l'Union européenne d'« acteur international », d'autres, comme (en), considèrent qu'elle a les attributs d'une « petite puissance ».
