- Eternal Springtime (French: L'Éternel Printemps) is a c. 1884 sculpture by the French artist Auguste Rodin, depicting a pair of lovers. It was created at the same time as The Gates of Hell and originally intended to be part of it. Rodin originally conceived of Eternal Springtime as part of The Gates of Hell, one of the representations of Paolo Malatesta and Francesca da Polenta, but did not include it there because the happiness expressed by the lovers did not seem appropriate to the theme. The Kiss, another famous sculpture by the artist, shares the same origin, but unlike The Kiss in Eternal Springtime the man dominates the composition, sustaining the arching body of his lover that joins him in a passionate kiss. Rodin took the woman's torso, with its arched pose, from the Torso of Adele that appears in the upper left corner of the tympanum on The Gates of Hell; the model was Adele Abruzzesi, originally from Italy, and for the man Lou Tellegen. However, at the time of his creation of Eternal Springtime, he was in a romantic relationship with Camille Claudel, and Reine-Marie Paris, the granddaughter of Claudel's brother Paul Claudel, has suggested that traces of her can be discerned in the woman of this piece and in other female figures prominent in works he created in the mid-1880s. The work was reproduced several times in bronze and marble. A marble version dating to c. 1901 was sold at auction in May 2016 for a then record-breaking $20 million. (en)
- La Eterna Primavera (o Céfiro y la tierra o Juventud o Ideal) es una escultura del artista francés Auguste Rodin, creada a la par del proyecto La puerta del Infierno. Fue concebida originalmente para formar parte de este conjunto como una de las representaciones de Paolo Malatesta y , aunque nunca llegó a incluirse debido a que el sentimiento de felicidad que expresan los amantes no parecía apropiado para la temática. El torso de la mujer fue tomado de la postura arqueada del Torso de Adele que sí aparece en la esquina superior izquierda del tímpano de La Puerta. La composición de la silueta femenina se realizó a partir de la modelo de origen italiano Adele Abruzzesi. La creación de esta pieza coincide con la relación que el escultor sostuvo con Camille Claudel de quien, según algunas investigaciones, es posible reconocer su rastro en la mujer de esta obra como en algunas otras de sus figuras femeninas más destacadas en la mitad de la década de 1880. Contrario a El Beso, en La Eterna Primavera es el hombre quien domina la composición sosteniendo el cuerpo arqueado de su amante que se une al suyo en un apasionado beso. La obra fue tan exitosa que se reprodujo varias veces en bronce y mármol, de hecho una versión en mármol rompió un récord al ser subastada por $20 millones de dólares. Rodin hizo una versión en mármol en donde plasmó un tronco para que descansara el brazo del hombre, mientras que su pie derecho yace sobre una roca, esta versión la posee Museo Soumaya. (es)
