- Epistemological realism is a philosophical position, a subcategory of objectivism, holding that what can be known about an object exists independently of one's mind. It is opposed to epistemological idealism. Epistemological realism is related directly to the correspondence theory of truth, which claims that the world exists independently and innately to our perceptions of it. Our sensory data then reflect or correspond to the innate world. (en)
- Le réalisme épistémologique est une position théorique au sujet de la connaissance, qui considère que celle-ci porte sur des objets « réels » extérieurs au sujet et indépendants de lui. Liée à la théorie de la vérité-correspondance, cette position implique la possibilité de parvenir à la connaissance de la réalité, au moins partiellement et graduellement. Le réalisme épistémologique est tacitement admis par tous ceux qui estiment que la connaissance nous offre une représentation fidèle de la façon dont le monde est, indépendamment de l’esprit. Aujourd'hui, le réalisme scientifique en est la version la plus courante, notamment dans le champ de la recherche scientifique. - Realizm epistemologiczny, realizm teoriopoznawczy – pogląd filozoficzny zakładający możliwość poznania przedmiotu transcendentnego (czyli inaczej mówiąc odrębnego) od świadomości podmiotu poznającego. Poglądem przeciwstawnym jest idealizm epistemologiczny. Realizmu epistemologicznego nie należy mylić z realizmem ontologicznym, który odnosi się nie do problematyki teorii poznania, lecz ontologii – zagadnienia istnienia bytu transcendentnego. (pl)
