- La Isla Endicott (en inglés: Endicott Island) es una isla artificial localizada en el estado de Alaska, Estados Unidos. Se encuentra a 2.5 millas —4 kilómetros— mar adentro y a 15 millas —24 kilómetros— del mar de Beaufort. Esta isla fue construida en 1987 y actualmente es utilizada por las multinacionales BP (British Petroleum) y ExxonMobil en la producción de petróleo. En el océano Ártico, Endicott fue una de las principales islas donde se trabajaba en la producción de petróleo, produciendo cerca de 20.000 barriles de crudo por día. Cerca de 423.000.000 de barriles se habían producido en marzo de 2003. Esta cantidad de petróleo es procesada y enviada a través de una tubería de 39 kilómetros que coduce a un oleoducto llamado Trans-Alaska. - Endicott Island is a 45-acre (18 ha) artificial island located in the U.S. state of Alaska, 2.5 miles (4 km) offshore and 15 miles (24 km) from Prudhoe Bay of the Beaufort Sea. Endicott Island was built in 1987 by and is used by BP and for petroleum production. Endicott Island has a permanent causeway connecting it to the mainland, unlike Northstar Island which is too far out for any kind of causeway to be built. Endicott Island was the first continuously producing offshore oil field in the Arctic, producing around 20,000 barrels (3,200 m3) of oil per day. Approximately 423 million barrels (67,300,000 m3) had been produced as of March 2003. Processed oil is sent from Endicott Island through a 24-mile (39 km) pipeline to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and thence to Valdez, Alaska. In 1998 and 1999, illegal waste dumping at Endicott Island resulted in combined fines of US$1,500,000 against BP and Doyon Drilling, with further settlements of $24,000,000. In September 1999, one of BP’s US subsidiaries, BP Exploration Alaska (BPXA), agreed to resolve charges related to the illegal dumping of hazardous wastes on the Alaska North Slope, for $22 million. The settlement included the maximum $500,000 criminal fine, $6.5 million in civil penalties, and BP’s establishment of a $15 million environmental management system at all of BP facilities in the US and Gulf of Mexico that are engaged in oil exploration, drilling or production. The charges stemmed from the 1993 to 1995 dumping of hazardous wastes on Endicott Island by BP’s contractor Doyon Drilling. The firm illegally discharged waste oil, paint thinner and other toxic and hazardous substances by injecting them down the outer rim, or annuli, of the oil wells. BPXA failed to report the illegal injections when it learned of the conduct, in violation of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act. (en)
- L'ile Endicott (en anglais : Endicott Island) est une ile artificielle de 18 hectares située à 4 km de la côte arctique de l'Alaska, à 24 km de Prudhoe Bay. L'ile Endicott a été construite en 1987. Elle est utilisée par BP et Hilcorp Alaska pour l'exploitation pétrolière. L'ile est reliée au continent par une chaussée, à la différence de l'ile Northstar qui est trop loin de la terre ferme. Endicott a été la première exploitation de pétrole offshore permanente en Arctique. La production initiale de 100 000 barils (16 000 m3) de pétrole par jour a progressivement diminué pour n'être plus que de 8 000 barils par jour en 2011. Environ 460 millions de barils (73 000 000 m3) avaient été produits en 2011. Le pétrole raffiné est expédié depuis l'ile d'Endicott par un oléoduc dédié de 39 km, puis par l'oléoduc trans-Alaska pour rejoindre Valdez au Sud de l'Alaska. Des rejets illégaux de matières toxiques entre 1993 et 1995 ont conduit à la condamnation en 1999 des sociétés BP et Doyon Drilling à 1,5 million de dollar d'amende et 22 millions de dollars de dommages et intérêts. En 2010 BP envisage l'exploitation du gisement Liberty distant de 12 kilomètres via un forage horizontal depuis l'ile d'Endicott, évitant ainsi les restrictions sur les forages offshore. Het eiland werd in 1987 aangelegd door Alaska International Construction in opdracht van BP en ExxonMobil voor het winnen van aardolie. Endicott Island was het eerste continue producerende offshore olieveld in de Arctis, met een productie van 3200 m³ olie per dag. In maart 2003 had het veld reeds 67.300.000 m³ olie geproduceerd. De verwerkte olie wordt via een 39 kilometer lange pijpleiding naar de Trans-Alaska-pijpleiding vervoerd, en van daaruit naar Valdez aan de zuidkust van Alaska. BP och Hilcorp Alaska producerar petroleumprodukter på platsen. De pumpas till fastlandet via en rörledning och vidare till Valdez på sydkusten genom . Lite längre från land ligger en liknande ö, , där man också utvinner olja. Mellan 1993 och 1995 pumpades avfall från produktionen olagligt tillbaka till oljekällan och BP tvingades betala 22 miljoner dollar i böter. Vintern 2017 grävde en isbjörnshona ett ide i snön under oljeledningen från Endicott Island för att föda en unge. Hilcorp minskade trafiken på vägbanken för att ge dem lugn och ro och Brigham Young University övervakade idet. Den 18 mars lämnade isbjörnarna idet och efter två veckor gav de sig av mot havet för att skaffa föda. (sv)
