- Eglon (en hebreu עֶגְלוֹן) va ser una ciutat cananea a Judea, prop de Laquix. Segons diu el Llibre de Josuè, els cinc reis amorreus, de Jerusalem, d'Hebron, de Jarmut, de Laquix i d'Eglon es van aliar i es van presentar amb els seus exèrcits davant de la ciutat de Gabaon, que havia signat la pau amb Josuè. El rei d'Eglon es deia Debir. Els cinc reis van ser vençuts i morts i Josuè va conquerir Eglon, passant "a tall d'espasa" els seus habitants. Des d'Eglon Josuè va atacar Hebron. (ca)

According to the Book of Joshua, Debir, king of Eglon, joined a confederation against Gibeon when that city made peace with Israel. The five kings involved were slain and Eglon was later conquered and its inhabitants condemned to destruction. It was thereafter included in the territory of the Tribe of Judah, although it is not mentioned outside of the Book of Joshua. According to K. van Bekkum, the location of Eglon is unknown, but the most plausible candidate is Tel 'Eton. (en)

- Eglon was een Kanaänitische stad genoemd in de Hebreeuwse Bijbel waarvan de koning Debir zich aansloot bij de coalitie tegen de stad Gibeon en de Israëlieten. Dit verbond was opgericht op initiatief van koning Adoni-Zedek van Jeruzalem en naast Debir sloten ook nog de koningen Hoham van Hebron, Piream van Jarmuth en Jafia van Lachis zich erbij aan. De vijf koningen werden verslagen en vermoord en hun legers grotendeels uitgeroeid in de slag bij Gibeon. Bij de verdeling van het land door Jozua werd de stad toegewezen aan de stam van Juda. Men heeft de antieke stad vereenzelvigd met Tell el-Hesi, maar meer recent onderzoek verwerpt deze hypothese. (nl)
