- The Eerste Klasse (English: First Class) started as the 1st tier of football in the Netherlands and is now the 6th tier. The league is divided into eleven divisions, six for Saturday clubs and five for Sunday clubs. These divisions correspond to the six districts of the Royal Dutch Football Association: each district organises a Saturday competition and a Sunday competition, except for South II, which only has a Sunday competition. Each division consists of 14 teams. The champion of the Eerste Klasse divisions are promoted to the Vierde Divisie (formerly Hoofdklasse). Furthermore, a season is divided into two periods (Dutch: periodes) of eight matches each. The winners of these periods qualify for promotion playoffs, provided they finish in the top nine overall in the season. The numbers 11 and 12 in the final rankings play relegation playoffs, and the numbers 13 and 14 relegated to the Tweede Klasse. (en)
- Die Eerste Klasse war von 1897 bis 1955 die höchste niederländische Fußballliga. Infolge der Einführung des Profifußballs in den Niederlanden ab 1954, wurde sie 1955 als 1. Liga von der Hoofdklasse abgelöst. Im weiteren Verlauf der Professionalisierung wurde diese bereits im Folgejahr durch die drei Profiligen Eredivisie, Eerste Divisie und Tweede Divisie ersetzt, woraufhin die Eerste Klasse als höchste Amateurliga fortan nur noch viertklassig war. Auch als 1971 die Tweede Divisie aufgrund mangelnder Rentabilität aufgelöst wurde, war die Aufwertung der Eerste Klasse nur von kurzer Dauer, da bereits 1974 die Hoofdklasse als erste Amateurliga neugegründet wurde. Seit 2010 die Topklasse als Bindeglied zwischen Profi- und Amateurbereich den Spielbetrieb aufgenommen hat, ist sie nunmehr fünftklassig bzw. die 3. Amateurliga. Der letzte niederländische Meister der noch über die Eerste Klasse ausgespielt und gleichzeitig der erste Profimeister wurde, ist Willem II Tilburg (Saison 1954/55). (de)

- De Eerste klasse is met ingang van het seizoen 2016/17 het vierde amateurniveau in het Nederlands amateurvoetbal en het zesde voetbalniveau van Nederland. De Eerste klasse telt elf competities met elk veertien clubs, vijf in het zaterdagvoetbal en zes in het zondagvoetbal. In het zondagvoetbal was de eerste klasse tot 1974 het hoogste amateurniveau en van 1974-2010 het tweede amateurniveau. In het zaterdagvoetbal was de eerste klasse sinds de introductie in 1970 tot 1996 het hoogste amateurniveau en van 1996-2010 het tweede amateurniveau.
