Roman graduated magna cum laude from Lehman College in 1985 with a B.A. in Business Management. He received his J.D. in 1988 from the University of Wisconsin Law School. After practicing at several New York City law firms from 1988 to 1995, he entered legal academia as a professor at the St. Thomas University Law School. He became a founding member of the faculty of the Florida International University College of Law in 2002. In August 2006, he was selected to chair the Hispanic National Bar Association section on the Legal Academy. Currently, he teaches at the University of Miami School of Law.
