- Dónal Murphy is a British-born Irish traditional accordionist, known for his work with the band Four Men and a Dog. Born in Birmingham to a father who played the button accordion and a mother who was a step dancer, he moved to Limerick as a child. Here he co-founded Four Men and a Dog in 1990 together with Cathal Hayden (fiddle), (banjo), (Bodhrán) and (guitar/vocals). In 2009 he released the solo album “Happy Hour”, and since 2015 he tours with his band "Breaking Trad". He has also played in the band Sliabh Notes with Matt Cranitch and Tommy O'Sullivan, a band specializing in the traditional music of the Sliabh Luachra region. (en)

Op achtjarige leeftijd begon hij al te spelen op de tin whistle. Maar later stapte hij over op de diatonische accordeon en won daar verscheidene titels mee.Later toerde hij door Ierland, Engeland, de Verenigde Staten, Sardinië en Japan met Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. In 1990 vormde hij met Cathal Hayden (viool) en Brian McGrath (banjo) de groep Four Men & A Dog. Dónal ging bij de band weg in 1993. Daarna volgde in 1995 een verbond met Matt Cranitch (viool) en Tommy O'Sullivan (zanger en gitarist) en zij begonnen te spelen met Sliabh Notes.Met Sliabh Notes speelden zij onder andere bij het North Texas Irish Festival, in Kopenhagen, Denemarken en natuurlijk in Ierland.
