- Defense Distributed is an online open-source hardware organization that develops digital schematics of firearms in CAD files, or "wiki weapons", that may be downloaded from the Internet and used in 3D printing or CNC milling applications. Among the organization's goals is to develop and freely publish firearms-related design schematics that can be downloaded and reproduced by anyone with a 3D printer or milling machine, facilitating the popular production of ghost guns. The company is best known for developing and releasing the files for the Liberator, the world's first completely 3D printed gun. On May 5, 2013, Defense Distributed made these printable STL files public, and within days the United States Department of State demanded they be removed from the Internet, citing a violation of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. On May 6, 2015, Defense Distributed, joined by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), filed Defense Distributed v. U.S. Dept. of State in the Western District of Texas, leading the State Department to eventually offer a settlement in 2018. On July 27, 2018, Defense Distributed released ten CAD files for download at DEFCAD before a federal judge in Washington State enjoined the settlement in Defense Distributed I. On April 27, 2021, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit vacated the injunction, and ordered the district court to dismiss the suit challenging the settlement. Shortly thereafter, Defense Distributed released its library of files to the public. Multiple federal and state lawsuits are pending which challenge, or attempt to uphold, this settlement. (en)

El proyecto actual de la organización es llamado "Proyecto Wiki Arma", su objetivo es desarrollar y publicar libremente esquemas de diseño relacionados con armas de fuego que pueden ser descargados y reproducidos por cualquier persona con una impresora 3D, logrando hasta el momento lanzar la Liberator -la primera arma impresa en 3D. Defense Distributed también planea digitalizar diseños descargables de otro tipo de objetos como prótesis y medicamentos. La organización fue fundada en 2012, por Cody Wilson, un estudiante de leyes en la Universidad de Derecho de Texas quien se identifica como criptoanarquista y anarquista de mercado, y un grupo de amigos y estudiantes universitarios. Après avoir recueilli plus de 20 000 $ via une levée de fonds de type finance participative, Defense Distributed subit la confiscation de sa première imprimante 3D, puis commence les premiers tests de tir à l’aide d’armes imprimées en 3D en décembre 2012. Defense Distributed, à ce jour, a produit la première platine imprimée fonctionnelle pour carabine AR-15, le premier chargeur imprimé fonctionnel pour carabine AR-15, ainsi que le premier chargeur imprimé fonctionnel pour carabine AK-47. Ces fichiers sont disponibles en téléchargement sur le site de l'organisation, DEFCAD. Le 5 mai 2013, Defense Distributed rend publique le fichier STL permettant l’impression 3D du premier pistolet entièrement imprimable en 3D : le « Liberator ». Cependant la dangerosité de cette arme pour son utilisateur, du fait de son manque de résistance, est très vite mis en avant par les autorités, notamment grâce à des tests effectués par la police de New South Wales en Australie. Le 9 mai 2013, le Département d'État des États-Unis a demandé à Defense Distributed de retirer les liens de téléchargement de ses fichiers en vertu de la Réglementation américaine contre le trafic d'armes au niveau international. - Defense Distributed — сетевая организация, работающая под идеологией open source и занимающаяся разработкой огнестрельного оружия (так называемого вики-оружия), компоненты которого можно распечатать на 3D-принтере. Первые практические результаты были получены к декабрю 2012 года, когда начались тестовые испытания разработанных образцов. В настоящее время разработаны магазины стандартной ёмкости для винтовки AR-15 и автомата AK-47, глушитель, часть ствольной коробки (пистолетная рукоять, спусковая скоба, приёмник магазина) автоматов серии AR-15 и держатель (но не обойма и не магазин, для заряжания патроны необходимо вынуть из держателя) трёх патронов 12 калибра гладкоствольных ружей, причём все модификации могут быть использованы в реальном оружии вместо стандартных стальных деталей.
