- Diatto was an Italian manufacturing company founded in 1835 in Turin by Guglielmo Diatto (1804–1864) to make 'carriages for wealthy customers'. In 1874 Guglielmo’s sons, Giovanni and Battista Diatto, began building railway carriages for Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits and the Orient Express. In 1905 Guglielmo's grandsons, Vittorio and Pietro Diatto, began Diatto-Clément, a cooperative venture making motor-vehicles under license from French manufacturer Clément-Bayard owned by industrialist Adolphe Clément-Bayard. By 1909 they had full ownership of 'Autocostruzioni Diatto' and began developing their own motor-vehicles and exporting them worldwide. From 1905 the company built two and four cylinder cars based on the Clément-Bayard, a leading contemporary French manufacturer. By the 1920s, Diatto was making quality cars of its own design, including race cars with supercharged eight-cylinder engines. Diatto also supplied frames to Bugatti which used them for their own race cars. Some Diatto racers were prepared and raced by Alfieri Maserati who left Diatto in 1926 to establish the Maserati marque with his brothers. Diatto cars were known for their innovative engineering and as early as the 1920s they were equipped with four-wheel brakes and four-speed gearboxes. Diatto ceased production in 1929. (en)
- Diatto es una fábrica italiana de automóviles que tiene su antecedente en un taller de carruajes y material tranviario establecido en 1835 por Battista Diatto en el corso Moncalieri de Turín, cercano al río Po, de donde obtenía la energía para las máquinas. Más tarde amplió sus instalaciones para la producción de vagones de tren. Pietro y Vittorio, hijos de Battista, que habían estudiado ingeniería, decidieron redirigir el negocio a principios de siglo a los automóviles que rápidamente se estaban poniendo de moda. Obtienen licencia para fabricar modelos de la parisina Clément-Bayard, marca creada por Adolphe Clément-Bayard cuando en 1903 se separó de la Gladiator. Constituido el acuerdo en 1905, se establece la fábrica en la vía Frejus en Turín y al año siguiente se producen los primeros modelos: el 10/12HP un bicilíndrico de 1884 cc y el 4 cilindros 20/25 de 3770 cc. Un año después se añade el 6 cilindros 24HP de 4086cc. La colaboración con la Clément termina en 1909, y la sociedad cambia su denominación por la de "Officina Fonderia Frejus-Vetture Diatto", y se comienza a producir motores propios, en realidad un solo modelo de monobloque de 4 cilindros de 1413cc. Con este motor se equipa al modelo 16/20HP, que fue el único fabricado hasta la Gran Guerra y del que se produjeron cerca de 300 unidades. A lo largo de la guerra se introducen nuevos modelos, el pequeño 18HP, y el 6 cilindros 30/40 HP que son utilizados también como vehículos militares. Diatto cesó la producción en 1929. (es)

- Diatto was een Italiaans bedrijf dat werd opgericht in 1835. Tussen 1905 en 1929 produceerde Diatto auto's. Diatto werd in 1835 opgericht door de wielmaker en -hersteller aan de oevers van de Po in Turijn. Het bedrijf was succesvol met het produceren van wielen voor karren en wagens en kende snel verschillende uitbreidingen. Al snel werden de activiteiten uitgebreid en begon Diatto ook omnibussen en trams te bouwen. Op 16 oktober 1864 stierf Guglielmo Diatto en het bedrijf werd verdeeld onder zijn vrouw, zonen en dochters. Drie jaar later verkochten de vrouwelijke erfgenamen hun deel aan de zonen (Vincenzo, Giovanni, Giovanni Battista en Pietro) en die hernoemden het bedrijf naar Fratelli Diatto (Fratelli betekent (ge)broeders in het Italiaans). Fratelli Diatto werd een belangrijke producent van treinwagons. Nadat Vincenzo en Pietro gestorven waren, kocht Giovanni Battista alle aandelen van zijn broer Giovanni en werd zo alleen eigenaar van de fabriek. In 1918 sloot Diatto een overeenkomst met FIAT en werd zo de spoorwegdivisie van FIAT. (nl)
