- El dhantal es un instrumento de percusión. Es una vara larga de acero que se sostiene con una mano y con la otra mano se percute con una pieza de metal en forma de U. Lo usan los trintitarios y surinemeses de ascendía india para acompañar al dholak y al armonio, llevando un patrón rítmico repetitivo. Se puede obtener un tono apagado si se aprieta la mano de sujeción cerca del área de percusión, y un tono abierto si se afloja la mano. (es)
- The dhantal (dandtal) is a long steel rod based percussion instrument (sounding similar to the triangle), which was adapted from the iron "bows" that yoked the oxen that pulled the carts on the estates in Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, other parts of the Caribbean, Fiji, Mauritius, and South Africa. The original beater was an actual horseshoe, a shape which is still retained in the dhantal's modern context as a musical instrument. Its top may be blunt or tapered to a fine point to allow for greater resonance, and its end is shaped into a circle that rests on the ground, table, or other surface when it is played. It is usually about a meter long and 3/8" to 1/2" thick. (en)

Het instrument is aangepast aan de ijzeren bogen van ossenwagens op de landgoederen in Suriname, Guyana en andere delen van het Caribisch gebied, Fiji, Mauritius en Zuid-Afrika. De oorspronkelijke klopper was een hoefijzer, een vorm die mettertijd is behouden. De bovenkant kan bot zijn of taps toelopen tot een fijn punt om meer resonantie mogelijk te maken.
