- The Deverel–Rimbury culture was a name given to an archaeological culture of the British Middle Bronze Age in southern England. It is named after two barrow sites in Dorset and dates to between c. 1600 and 1100 BC. It is characterised by the incorrectly-named Celtic fields, palisaded cattle enclosures, small roundhouses and cremation burials either in urnfield cemeteries or under low, round barrows. Cremations from this period were also inserted into pre-existing barrows. The people were arable and livestock farmers. Deverel–Rimbury pottery is characterised by distinctive globular vessels with tooled decoration and thick-walled, so-called "bucket urns" with cordoned, usually finger-printed decoration. In the southern counties of the UK, fabric is usually coarsely flint-tempered. In East Anglia and further northeast grog-tempering is typical. The term Deverel-Rimbury is now mostly used to refer to the pottery types as archaeologists today believe that Deverel–Rimbury does not represent a single homogeneous cultural group but numerous disparate groups who shared a varying range of cultural traits. Essa è caratterizzata dai cosiddetti impropriamente campi celtici, recinti per rinchiudere il bestiame e la pratica delle sepolture con cremazione in cimiteri di campi di urne o sotto bassi tumuli rotondi. Alcune cremazioni di questo periodo erano anche inserite nei tumuli preesistenti. Veniva praticato l'allevamento. Il vasellame in ceramica prodotto dalla cultura di Deverel-Rimbury comprendeva caratteristici vasi globulari con decorazione fatta a scannellature e linee graffiate insieme a tozze urne a secchio, abbastanza spesse, con decorazione cordonata e segni di impronte digitali sugli orli. La struttura veniva temperata con silice grossolana. Il termine è adesso normalmente usato soltanto per riferirsi ai tipi di ceramica, poiché i moderni archeologi credono che Deverel-Rimbury non rappresenti una singola cultura, ma numerose società disparate che condividevano soltanto alcune tecnologie. В настоящее время термин обычно относится к типу керамики, поскольку по мнению археологов, Деверел-Римбери не представляла собой единой культуры, но скорее ряд отдельных обществ с общими технологическими достижениями. Керамика культуры Деверел-Римбери включала особые шарообразные сосуды с рифлёными или желобообразными украшениями, а также насечками, а также короткие толстостеные урны с декоративными элементами и отпечатками пальцев на ободках. Характерными памятниками данной (псевдо)культуры являются (неверно названные) «кельтские поля», загоны для скота и погребения кремированных тел либо на кладбищах с погребальными урнами, либо под низкими круглыми курганами.
