Παράλληλα, αποτελεί ένα εκ των, συνολικά 17, ξένων αρχαιολογικών ινστιτούτων με έδρα την Ελλάδα. Η ίδρυση του συγκεκριμένου ινστιτούτου χρονολογείται στο 1992. Κύριο αντικείμενο των εργασιών του αποτελεί η αρχαιολογική έρευνα, ωστόσο, παράλληλα, λειτουργεί και ως πολιτισμικό ινστιτούτο, διοργανώνοντας αριθμό εκδηλώσεων. Το ινστιτούτο στεγάζεται εντός κτιρίου στη συνοικία της Πλάκας, στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Αθήνας. Το ινστιτούτο διαχειρίζεται τη γειτονική Βιβλιοθήκη Βορείων Χωρών από κοινού με τα νορβηγικά, σουηδικά και φινλανδικά ινστιτούτα με έδρα την Αθήνα. (el)

Founded in 1992, the Danish Institute focuses on archaeological research in Greece, but also operates as a cultural institute, with a programme of exhibitions and concerts. It is a contributor (with its Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish counterparts) to the Nordic Library at Athens. It is involved in archaeological fieldwork at Calydon and Kato Vassiliki (Aetolia), as well as Zea Harbour (Piraeus, Athens). (en)

Ses activités se concentrent principalement sur la recherche archéologique, mais il fait également office d'institution culturelle, notamment en organisant divers événements. L'institut est établi dans un bâtiment à Pláka, dans la vieille ville d'Athènes.
