- Cosmolabe Rock (Bulgarian: скала Космолабия, romanized: skala Cosmolabe, IPA: [skɐˈla kosmoˈlabija]) is the rock off the NW coast of northwest coast of Nelson Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 120 m in southeast–northwest direction and 50 m wide. Its surface area is 0.23 ha. The vicinity was visited by early 19th century sealers. The feature is named after the cosmolabe, an instrument created by the French inventor and mathematician Jacques Besson (ca 1540–1573) to be used for navigation, surveying and cartography; in association with other names in the area deriving from the early development or use of geodetic instruments and methods. - Der Cosmolabe Rock (englisch; bulgarisch скала Космолабия skala Kosmolabija) ist ein in südost-nordwestlicher Ausrichtung 120 m langer und 50 m breiter Klippenfelsen vor der Nordwestküste von Nelson Island im Archipel der Südlichen Shetlandinseln. Er liegt 860 m nordwestlich des Retamales Point, 2,7 km nordöstlich des Smilets Point und 1,43 km südwestlich von Withem Island. Britische Wissenschaftler kartierten ihn 1968. Die bulgarische Kommission für Antarktische Geographische Namen benannte ihn im April 2021 nach dem Cosmolabium des französischen Mathematikers und Ingenieurs Jacques Besson (≈1540–≈1573). (de)
