- Corton ist eine als Grand Cru eingestufte Weinlage an der im französischen Burgund. Sie liegt in den Gemeinden Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses und Ladoix-Serrigny in der Côte de Beaune. Corton hat eine eigene Appellation. Erzeugt wird sowohl Rotwein (als einzige Grand-Cru-Lage in der Côte de Beaune) als auch Weißwein. Corton belegt die niedrigeren Lagen des gleichnamigen Hügels Montagne de Corton. Aufgrund der Größe und der unterschiedlichen Ausrichtung der Rebflächen zur Sonne wird häufig die Gemarkung (franz.: Climat) auf dem Etikett erwähnt. Den Status einer AOC erhielt die Lage am 31. Juli 1937. Einige Parzellen teilt sich die Lage Corton mit der zweiten Grand-Cru-Lage des Hügels: Corton-Charlemagne. Beide Lagen zusammen verfügen über eine Fläche von nahezu 160.19 Hektar und überschneiden sich zum Teil. Es gelten folgende Regeln:
* Der Rotwein namens Corton darf auf der gesamten, definierten Fläche (siehe Abschnitt Climats) produziert werden. Auf dem Etikett darf zur besseren Eingrenzung der Name des climats erwähnt werden. Lediglich Rotweine der Lage Corton-Charlemagne sind von dieser Regelung ausgeschlossen.
* Der Weißwein namens Corton darf auf der gesamten, definierten Fläche (siehe Abschnitt Climats) produziert werden. Der Name des climat darf nicht erwähnt werden. Einzige Ausnahme: der Wein Corton-Vergennes des Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune (Hospices de Beaune).
* Einige Parzellen in Aloxe und Ladoix dürfen Rotweine und Weißweine unter dem Namen Corton-Charlemagne erzeugen. Corton Weine sind überwiegend Rotweine (ungefähr 95 Prozent der AOC) auf Basis der Pinot Noir Rebe. Der kleine Anteil der Weißweine wird aus Chardonnay gekeltert. (de)

The appellation covers the lower parts of the Corton hill and includes several subordinate vineyard names, or climats, within the AOC. Because of the size of the AOC and the variability of these climats, it is the rule rather than the exception that the name of the climat is indicated together with that of the Corton AOC, leading to designations such as Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Les Bressandes. Corton is rare in this aspect, as the 'climat' is seldom used for other Grand Cru appellations in Côte d'Or. The AOC was created in 1937. Corton wines are mostly red (around 95 per cent of the total production in the AOC) and made from the Pinot noir grape, however a smaller quantity of white Corton from Chardonnay is also produced. Around 500,000 bottles a year are produced from the vines. The Corton appellation itself is the Côte de Beaune's only Grand Cru appellation for red wine, and is the largest Grand Cru of Burgundy.
