- يجري الحفاظ على اللوحات وترميمها من قبل مختصين في ترميم اللوحات. تغطي اللوحات مجموعة كبيرة من الوسائط والمواد والتدعيم (أي السطح المطلي المصنوع من القماش أو الورق أو الألواح الخشبية أو الألواح المصنعة وغيرها). تتنوع أنماط اللوحات من لوحات الفنون الجميلة إلى الأشياء الزخرفية والوظيفية التي تشمل الأكريلك والتصوير الجصي والطلاء الزيتي على الأسطح المختلفة وتمبرا البيض على الألواح والقماش والطلاء بالورنيش والألوان المائية وغيرها المزيد. يسمح معرفة المواد التي تتكون منها أي لوحة والأساس الذي رُسمت عليها بالترميم السليم وممارسات الترميم. تتفاعل جميع مكونات اللوحة مع بيئتها بشكل مختلف، وتؤثر على العمل الفني ككل. ستحدد هذه المكونات المادية جنبًا إلى جنب مع مجموعات العناية (المعروفة أيضًا باسم الحفظ الوقائي) طول عمر اللوحة. تشمل الخطوات الأولى للحفظ والترميم، الحفظ الوقائي يليه الترميم النشط مع أخذ هدف الفنان في عين الاعتبار. - The conservation and restoration of paintings is carried out by professional painting conservators. Paintings cover a wide range of various mediums, materials, and their supports (i.e. the painted surface made from fabric, paper, wood panel, fabricated board, or other). Painting types include fine art to decorative and functional objects spanning from acrylics, frescoes, and oil paint on various surfaces, egg tempera on panels and canvas, lacquer painting, water color and more. Knowing the materials of any given painting and its support allows for the proper restoration and conservation practices. All components of a painting will react to its environment differently, and impact the artwork as a whole. These material components along with collections care (also known as preventive conservation) will determine the longevity of a painting. The first steps to conservation and restoration is preventive conservation followed by active restoration with the artist's intent in mind. (en)
- La conservation-restauration de peinture remplace le terme de "restauration" pour dénommer une discipline dédiée à l'examen et à la prise de mesures afin de conserver et restaurer des peintures quel que soit leur support (peintures sur bois, sur toile, peintures murales, etc.). Différents éléments d’une œuvre peuvent nécessiter une restauration : le support (toile, châssis) ou la peinture elle-même (couche de préparation, liant, pigments ou vernis).
