- Colonial Downs is a racetrack located in New Kent County, Virginia adjacent to Interstate 64, halfway between Richmond and Williamsburg. The track conducted Thoroughbred flat racing and Standardbred harness racing between 1997 and 2014, and reopened for thoroughbreds in 2019. It is owned by the Colonial Downs Group, a subsidiary of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment. On February 22, 2022, Churchill Downs Incorporated announced an agreement to acquire nearly all assets of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, including Colonial Downs. The nearly $2.5 billion transaction is expected to close by the end of 2022, subject to regulatory approvals. (en)
