It is located in the northernmost part of Pakistan and is close to the country's international borders with the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. The valley is predominantly inhabited by ethnic Wakhis; the village of Raminj in this region is inhabited by ethnic Burushos.
