Ursprünglich wurde der Park mit 1100 Hektar 1938 eingerichtet und wird bis heute von der IUCN in dieser Größe geführt. W parku znajdują się wykopaliska archeologiczne. Jest to niewielkie wzniesienie pochodzenia wulkanicznego. W pobliżu znajduje się wiele jaskiń, utworzone przez podziemne gazy. Maksymalna wysokość wynosi 2460 m n.p.m. W epoce prekolumbijskiej miejsce to miało ważne znaczenie religijne dla tutejszych plemion Indian (przede wszystkim Azteków).
