- Το Ceefax ήταν το πρώτο Teletext σε όλο τον κόσμο. Ξεκίνησε να λειτουργεί το 1974 από το BBC και τακτικά συμπλήρωνε το πρόγραμμα του BBC Two, μετά τα μεσάνυχτα όπου το κανάλι δεν είχε δικό του πρόγραμμα, ως Σελίδες από το Ceefax. - Ceefax [siːˈfæks] (nach engl. see facts, „Fakten sehen“) war der Teletext der BBC. Das System wurde im Oktober 1972 bekanntgegeben. Nach Testseiten 1973 und 1974 begann Ceefax am 23. September 1974 als erstes Teletext-System der Welt mit 30 Seiten. Ursprünglich war es nur dazu gedacht, Untertitel für Hörgeschädigte zu übermitteln. Es wurde jedoch bald auch auf andere Bereiche ausgeweitet. Bald wurde das System internationaler De-facto-Standard und verdrängte Systeme wie das französische Antiope-System. In Deutschland wurde es unter dem Namen Videotext von ARD und ZDF am 1. Juni 1980 in einem Feldversuch eingeführt. Von 1983 bis 1989 strahlte Ceefax Programme für den BBC Micro PC aus. Abgesehen von kleineren Änderungen, wie der Einführung von Farbe (1976) und den vier farbigen Abkürzungsknöpfen (1990), blieb die Technologie praktisch die gleiche. Ceefax wurde inzwischen nur noch analog ausgestrahlt, die digitalen Programme zeigten stattdessen BBC Red Button. Ceefax wurde – zusammen mit allen Analogprogrammen – am 23. Ceefax was started by the BBC in 1974 and ended, after 38 years of broadcasting, at 23:32:19 BST (11:32 PM BST) on 23 October 2012, in line with the digital switchover being completed in Northern Ireland. To receive a desired page of text on a teletext-capable receiver, the user would enter a three-digit page number on the device. Once the page number was entered, the selected page would display on the user's screen upon its actual transmission, which would have required a wait of several seconds. There were many pages to choose from and they could be displayed either on a black background or superimposed over the broadcast programme picture. This latter feature made it technically possible for the first time for British broadcasters to transmit subtitles which could be turned on or off by the viewer, rather than as part of the broadcast image.
