- Das Castro de Chibanes (während der arabischen Besatzung als Alcaria bekannt) befindet sich auf einem Hügel des Arrábida Naturparks im Bergland der in Palmela im Bezirk Setúbal in Portugal. Es ist eine prähistorische Befestigung, die im Chalkolithikum im 3. Jahrtausend v. Chr. und von der Eisenzeit bis in die Römische Kaiserzeit genutzt wurde. Das Castro war auf einer florierenden Wirtschaft in der Region aufgebaut, auch wenn Jagd und die Gezeitenfischerei in den Flussmündungen dokumentiert sind. Die Metallurgie von Kupfer war Teil des Handwerks. Es wird geschätzt, dass die Größe der umwallten Fläche während der Vorgeschichte etwa 1,0 Hektar betrug. Die Bevölkerung von Chibanes bestattete ihre Toten möglicherweise in der nahe gelegenen Nekropole . Die früheste Nutzung des Castros geht auf das Chalkolithikum und die Bronzezeit zurück. Dieser Teil der Festung wurde relativ stark zerstört. Vorübergehend vermutlich aufgegeben, wurde es aufgrund der geostrategischen Bedingungen von der zweiten Hälfte der Eisenzeit (3. und 2. The Castro, or hill fort, is located at the top of the hill, naturally defended by a scarp to the south. It covers about one hectare and was first occupied in about 2900 BCE, during the Chalcolithic or Copper Age. It is registered as a Zona Especial de Protecção (a Special Protection Area) and also classified as a Sitio de Interesse Público (Site of Public Interest). (en)
- O Castro de Chibanes consiste numa fortificação pré e proto-histórica com as seguintes fases de ocupação: - Calcolítico (Idade do Cobre) inicial e pleno, III º milénio a.C.; - Calcolítico final / Bronze antigo (Horizonte Campaniforme), 1ª metade do IIº milénio a.C.; - Período de abandono durante cerca de 1.700 anos; - IIª Idade do Ferro (séculos III-II a.C.); - Período romano-repúblicano (século II-I a.C.); - Época romana imperial. O estudo deste povoado permite compreender melhor as relações comerciais e consequentes alterações sociais ao longo de vários milénios no território hoje português com o norte da Europa e o mediterrâneo.
