- Die Bucinobanten (lateinisch Bucinobantes) waren ein alamannischer Stamm im Mainmündungsgebiet bei Mainz. Der römische Chronist Ammianus Marcellinus berichtet, dass der Caesar des Westens, Julian, im Jahr 359 bei Mainz mit seiner Armee den Rhein überschritt und mehrere alamannische Stammesführer, darunter den Gaukönig der Bucinobanten, Makrian, zum Abschluss von Friedensverträgen zwang. Aufgrund andauernder Einfälle ins römische Reich schlug im Jahre 370 ein Versuch Kaiser Valentinian I. fehl, während einer Strafexpedition Makrian mit Hilfe der Burgunden gefangen zunehmen. Er wurde daraufhin vom Kaiser abgesetzt. Der an seiner statt eingesetzte Fraomar konnte sich jedoch bei den Bucinobanten nicht durchsetzen, so dass mit Makrian im Jahre 371 ein Bündnisvertrag geschlossen werden musste. Im Jahre 372 wurde der bukinobantische Fürst Bitherid von Kaiser Valentinian I. als Truppenführer im Römischen Heer eingesetzt. Für den vorderen Namensteil von Bucinobanten gibt es verschiedene Deutungs- und Ableitungsvorschläge: Buchen-, Hecken- oder Gebück-. Der hintere Namensteil leitet sich von der germanischen Raumbezeichnung bant („Land/Bereich“) ab. Eine Übertragung des Namens könnte „Die im Buchenbant Heimischen“ bedeuten. Der Name hat sich in der hessischen Landschaft Buchengau erhalten. Die Namensbedeutung: Buc = lat. Erhöhung, Backe, siehe auch Schildbuckel, Bucinobantes = die Hügelländer.Später erfolgte die Dehnung nach Buch = Buc(h). Heute auch Hügel, von buhil.Eine andere Schreibweise erfolgte mit "Buoch". The Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus wrote that Caesar Julian crossed the river Rhine near Mainz in 359 for negotiations with Macrian, the chieftain of the Bucinobantes, and with other Alamannic chiefs. After several rebellions against the Roman Empire, the emperor Valentinian I failed in his attempt (with the support of the Burgundians) to arrest Macrian. Valentinian appointed Fraomar as chieftain of the Bucinobantes, but they refused to accept the appointment. In the end Valentinian was forced in 371 to agree to an alliance with Macrian. Possibly as part of a deal with Macrian, in 371 Valentinian relocated Fraomar and his followers from Mainz to Britain. (en)

Après plusieurs rébellions contre l'Empire romain, l'empereur Valentinien Ier échoua dans sa tentative (avec l'aide des Burgondes) d'arrêter Macrian. Valentinien Ier nomma Fraomar en tant que chef des Bucinobantes, mais ces derniers refusèrent d’accepter cette nomination. En 371 Valentinien fut forcé de convenir à une alliance avec Macrian. (fr)

Lo storico romano Ammiano Marcellino scrisse che il cesare Giuliano attraversò il Reno nei pressi del Meno nel 359, al fine di negoziare con Macriano, capo dei Bucinobantes, e con altri capi alemanni. In seguito a numerose ribellioni contro l'Impero romano, l'imperatore Valentiniano I fallì nel suo tentativo (con l'aiuto dei Burgundi) di fermare Macriano. Eles formavam juntamente com os Hermiões, Hermúnduros, Jutungos, Amalausos, , etc a que nos séculos III, IV e V enfrentaram em várias oportunidades, tanto o exército romano quanto outras tribos bárbaras da região.
