- Botball is an educational robotics program that focuses on engaging middle and high school aged students in team-oriented robotics competitions. Thousands of children and young adults participate in the Botball program. It has been active since 1998 and features a robotics curriculum which focuses on designing, building and programming a pair of autonomous robots. Teams use a standardized kit of materials, document the process and then compete in a tournament in which the challenges change annually. All materials in the kits are exactly the same for every team around the world, so there are no unfair advantages. Botball teams are mostly based in the United States with over 300 teams and local tournaments in more than a dozen regions. In recent years it also holds an annual Global Conference on Educational Robotics (GCER), with an international tournament that attracts teams all over the country as well as from Mexico, Austria, China, Uganda, Poland, Qatar, Kuwait, and Egypt. - Das Botball Educational Robotics Programm ist ein US-amerikanisches Bildungsprogramm unter der Schirmherrschaft der NASA und beinhaltet einen teamorientierten Roboter-Wettbewerb, der auf den US-amerikanischen National Science Education Standards basiert und jedes Jahr neu ausgeschrieben wird. Ein wesentliches Ziel des Programms ist es, Schüler für Forschung, Technik und die MINT-Fächer zu begeistern. Durch Planung, Entwicklung, Programmierung und Dokumentation von Robotern sollen die Jugendlichen wissenschaftliches Forschen unmittelbar erleben, begreifen und präsentieren. Dafür ist ein vordefiniertes Set an erlaubten Roboter-Teilen (Motoren, Sensoren, Konstruktionsteile, Controller, Kamera etc.) erforderlich, um bestimmte Wettbewerbsaufgaben zu erfüllen. Die Botball-Saison startet im Frühjahr mit der Bekanntgabe der Aufgabenstellung und daran anschließenden zweitägigen Workshops für die teilnehmenden Teams. Danach haben die Teams mehrere Wochen Zeit, um ihre Roboter aus den vorgegebenen Teilen zu entwickeln und zu bauen. Bei regionalen Wettbewerben – in Europa bildet die ECER (European Conference on Educational Robotics) den Rahmen – werden dann in mehreren Bewerben Siegerteams ermittelt. Im Sommer – nach Abschluss der regionalen Wettkämpfe – findet im Rahmen der GCER (Global Conference on Educational Robotics) die Ermittlung der internationalen Sieger statt. Die GCER findet in den USA statt. Die Teilnahmeberechtigung ist von der Platzierung bei den regionalen Ausscheidungen unabhängig. (de)

Migliaia di giovani partecipano a questo programma. Botball è attivo dal 1998 e propone un curriculum di robotica che si concentra sulla progettazione, costruzione e programmazione di una coppia di robot autonomi. Le squadre utilizzano dei kit standardizzati di materiali, documentano il processo di realizzazione e quindi competono in un torneo. Tutti i materiali nei kit sono esattamente gli stessi per ogni squadra in tutto il mondo. Le squadre Botball hanno sede principalmente negli Stati Uniti con oltre 300 squadre. Negli ultimi anni si tiene una conferenza globale annuale sulla robotica educativa (GCER), con un torneo internazionale che attira squadre da tutto il mondo, nonché da Messico, Austria, Cina, Uganda, Polonia, Qatar, Kuwait ed Egitto.
