- Bosingak is a large bell pavilion on Jongno in Seoul, South Korea. The bell in Bosingak gives Jongno its name, which literally means "bell street". It was originally constructed in 1396 but destroyed many times by both war and fire. It was designated Bosingak by Emperor Gojong in 1895. In the Joseon Dynasty, this bell was at the center of the castle town. The bell was struck to announce the opening and closing of the four gates around Seoul. At 4 am and 10 pm the bell was struck 33 times and gates were opened and closed. It was used as a fire alarm as well. In modern times, the bell is rung only at midnight on New Year's Eve. Because of the massive number of people who attend this ceremony, Metro trains on Line 1 of the Seoul Subway do not stop at Jonggak Station on New Year's Eve. (en)

Le pavillon d'origine a été construit en 1396 mais a été détruit de nombreuses fois par le feu et les guerres. Le nom Bosingak lui a été attribué par l'empereur Gojong en 1895. On la sonnait pour annoncer l'ouverture et la fermeture des quatre portes de Séoul : trente-trois fois à quatre heures du matin et à dix heures du soir. À l'époque moderne on ne sonne la cloche qu'à minuit le réveillon du jour de l'an et, en raison de la foule qui assiste à cette cérémonie, les métros de la ligne 1 du métro de Séoul ne s'arrêtent alors pas à la station Jonggak. - Bosingak is een paviljoen met daarin een grote bel in de Zuid-Koreaanse hoofdstad Seoel. De bel staat aan de drukke straat Jongno en het is de bel die deze straat zijn naam geeft. Jongno betekent letterlijk "bel straat". De originele constructie stamt uit 1392, maar vanwege vuur en oorlog werd het paviljoen meerdere malen verwoest. Tentijde van de Joseondynastie werd de bel meerdere malen per dag geluid om de tijd aan te geven als signaal voor het openen en sluiten van de stadspoorten. Tevens diende het als brandalarm. Tegenwoordig wordt de bel alleen geluid op nieuwjaarsavond om 12 uur om het nieuwe jaar in te luiden. Vanwege de enorme aantallen toeschouwers die op dit evenement afkomen, stoppen de metro's op die avond niet op de nabijgelegen metrostation Jonggak. (nl)
