- L'Escut Blau (en anglès The Blue Shield), abans Comitè Internacional de l'Escut Blau (en anglès International Committee of the Blue Shield), és una organització internacional fundada l'any 1996 per protegir el patrimoni cultural mundial d'amenaces com els conflictes armats i els desastres naturals. Originalment pensada com "l'equivalent cultural de la Creu Roja, el seu nom deriva del símbol de l'escut blau dissenyat per Jan Zachwatowicz, utilitzat per a significar llocs culturals protegits per la Convenció de la Haia de 1954 per a la protecció dels béns culturals en conflictes armats. La declaració de la missió del Blue Shield es troba als seus estatuts. Es tracta d'una xarxa de comitès de persones dedicades a tot el món que està “compromesa amb la protecció dels béns culturals del món, i s'ocupa de la protecció del patrimoni cultural i natural, material i immaterial, en cas de conflicte armat, o un desastre provocat per l'home". Blue shield és una organització col·laboradora estreta amb l'ONU, el manteniment de la pau de les Nacions Unides i la UNESCO i en cooperació amb el Comitè Internacional de la Creu Roja. (ca)

Originally intended as the "cultural equivalent of the Red Cross, its name derives from the blue shield symbol designed by Jan Zachwatowicz, used to signify cultural sites protected by the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict. The Blue Shield's mission statement is in their statutes. It is a network of committees of dedicated individuals across the world that is “committed to the protection of the world's cultural property, and is concerned with the protection of cultural and natural heritage, tangible and intangible, in the event of armed conflict, natural- or human-made disaster.” Blue Shield is a close partner organization with the UN, United Nations peacekeeping and UNESCO and in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Blue Shield is een netwerkorganisatie van commissies van individuen uit de hele wereld. De organisatie is in 1996 opgericht door vier NGO's, allemaal instanties op het gebied van archieven, bibliotheken, monumenten of musea: ICA (International Council on Archives, ICOM (International Council of Museums), IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) en ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). De organisatie is gevestigd in Nederland, maar de staf is werkzaam aan de Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne. Doel van The Blue Shield is de bescherming van het het werelderfgoed, cultureel en natuurlijk erfgoed, tastbaar en immaterieel,in geval van gewapende conflicten, of door de natuur of mensen veroorzaakte rampen.
