- Bay United was a South African professional football (soccer) club based first in the city of Port Elizabeth and later Polokwane. It played in the South African Premier Division and National First Division. The club came into existence in 2006 when the franchise of struggling National First Division club Maritzburg United was purchased and relocated to Port Elizabeth. The club also purchased the Vodacom League franchise of the NMMU F.C. The club spent one season in the Premier Soccer League, and the other years of its existence in the National First Division. Following the 2010–11 NFD season, the club's NFD franchise was moved to Polokwane, Limpopo. It played the 2011–12 season under the name Bay United. In 2012, it became Polokwane City. The Vodacom League team became Bay Stars. (en)

Der Verein wurde 2006 als Nachfolgeverein von Maritzburg United mit Unterstützung von Volkswagen Südafrika gegründet, jedoch existieren heute wieder beide Fußballklubs, nachdem den Verein 2007 übernommen hatte. Danach konnte sich der Verein 2008 für die Premier League Soccer qualifizieren, stieg jedoch als Tabellenletzter sofort wieder ab. Seither konnte der Verein den Wiederaufstieg nicht mehr erreichen und Sponsoren aus Port Elizabeth blieben weitestgehend aus. Deshalb erklärte Pitanyas Firma Izingwe Holdings im März 2010, sie wolle den Verein verkaufen, bislang fand sich allerdings noch kein Käufer. (de)
