- معركة ثاسوس هي معركة دارت رحاها في أكتوبر من عام 829 بين أساطيل الإمبراطورية البيزنطية والدولة الإسلامية المتأسسة حديثًا في إمارة كريت. حيث حقق فيها مسلموا إمارة كريت انتصارًا كبيرًا. ويذكر في -وهي مجموعة من المخطوطات القديمة- أن معظم أسطول البحرية الرومانية كان قد فقد في المعركة. ولقد مهد هذا الانتصار الطريق أمام جيش المسلمين لفتح جزر بحر إيجة واستطاع المسلمون أن يبسطوا سيطرتهم على العديد من الجزر الأخرى في حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط مثل جزر كيكلادس. - Die Seeschlacht von Thasos fand im Oktober 829 zwischen der byzantinischen Flotte und der Flotte des Emirats von Kreta statt. Den Arabern gelang ein großer Sieg: Theophanes Continuatus berichtet, dass fast die gesamte kaiserliche Flotte vernichtet wurde. Dieser Erfolg öffnete den Arabern das Ägäische Meer. Die Kykladen und andere Inseln wurden geplündert und der Berg Athos wurde so verwüstet, dass er für mehrere Jahre verlassen war. (de)

The Cretan Arabs scored a major victory: Theophanes Continuatus records that almost the entire imperial fleet was lost. This success opened up the Aegean to the Saracens' raids.
