- The Second Battle of Mogadishu was a battle fought for control of Somalia's capital city, Mogadishu. The opposing forces were the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism (ARPCT), and militia loyal to the Islamic Courts Union (ICU). The conflict began in mid-February 2006, when Somali warlords formed the ARPCT to challenge the ICU's emerging influence. The ICU's influence was largely generated by wealthy financial donors who sought to enable the Islamic Courts Union to seize power in the country to bring stability. The battle is referred to as the Second Battle to distinguish it amongst the nine major Battles of Mogadishu during the decades-long Somali Civil War. It was found after the battle that the United States was funding the ARPCT due to concerns that the ICU had ties to al-Qaeda. The ICU militia won control of Mogadishu and ARPCT forces left the city. O conflito começou em meados de fevereiro de 2006, quando os senhores da guerra somalis formaram a ARPCT para desafiar a emergente influência da União das Cortes Islâmicas. A influência dos islamistas foi em grande parte gerada por ricos doadores financeiros que procuraram permitir que a União dos Tribunais Islâmicos tomasse o poder no país para trazer estabilidade. A batalha foi a segunda das nove grandes batalhas ocorridas em Mogadíscio durante a longeva Guerra Civil da Somália. - De Tweede Slag om Mogadishu was een veldslag die uitgevochten werd om de controle over Mogadishu, de hoofdstad van Somalië, te verkrijgen. Tegenover elkaar stonden de (ARPCT) en een militie die loyaal was aan de Unie van Islamitische Rechtbanken (UIR). Het conflict begon midden februari 2006 toen Somalische krijgsheren zich verenigden en zich gezamenlijk keerden tegen de ARPCT om de ontluikende invloed van de UIR uit te dagen. Vermeend wordt dat de Verenigde Staten fondsen leveren voor de ARPCT omdat de VS erop beducht zouden zijn dat de UIR banden had met al-Qaeda.
