- The Battle of Länkipohja (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈlæŋkiˌpohjɑ]) was a Finnish Civil War battle fought in the village of Länkipohja (now part of the Jämsä municipality) on 16 March 1918 between the Whites and the Reds. Together with the battles fought in Kuru, Ruovesi and Vilppula between 15 and 18 March, the Battle of Länkipohja was one of the first military operations related to the Battle of Tampere, which was the decisive battle of the Finnish Civil War. The battle is known for its bloody aftermath as the Whites executed 70–100 capitulated Reds. One of the executions was photographed and the images have become one of the best known pictures of the Finnish Civil War. (en)

Slaget var en förberedande operation i slaget om Tammerfors. Överste Karl Wilkmans uppgift var att öppna en anfallsväg till Orivesi vid Länkipohja vid Orivesi-Jämsänkoski-avsnittet i Längelmäki, 28 km nordost om Orivesi. Av hans Jämsä-grupp beordrades män från Seinäjoki, Lappo och Torneå fram för att erövra de rödas starkt befästa ställningar. Anfallet började i öppen terräng tidigt på marsmorgonen för att utnyttja överraskningsmomentet. Istället studsade anfallarna, varefter reserver kastades in i striden, Vasa grenadjärbataljon. De vita segrade. Arkebuseringar av de besegrade följde. I Längelmäki begravningsplats ligger de röda i en massgrav. I striden stupade "Lappo snöplog", Matti och Ilmari Laurila. Till deras ära komponerade Heikki Klemetti "Vilppulan urhojen muistolle". Monument över striden restes 1938 (restaurerad 1982). I centrala Länkipohja står sedan 1923 ett monument över Laurila. (sv)
