- Batadorp je sídelní útvar spojený s továrnou na výrobu obuvi, který před druhou světovou válkou založil v Nizozemsku koncern Baťa. Administrativně je Batadorp čtvrtí města , ležícího severně od Eindhovenu v nizozemské provincii Severní Brabantsko. Funkcionalistická budova Baťovy továrny má od roku 2000 status kulturní památky (rijksmonument znamená v doslovném překladu státní památka). (cs)
- Batadorp is a neighbourhood of the Dutch town of Best, just northwest of Eindhoven, where the Czech Bata Shoes company built a factory in 1934 on land that it bought from the municipality. Bata sought expansion abroad, partly to circumvent tariffs, and built factories and entire villages. Bata had operated shops in the Netherlands since 1922, and chose to locate in Best because land and labour were cheaply available. It also had good transport links, being at the junction of the Wilhelmina Canal with the Beatrix Canal and close to a railway. The factory it built there in 1933 was an exact copy of the headquarters in Zlín. At that time, Bata already had 28 shoe shops in the country, and this number grew to 150 in 1961. Many Bata shops had their own shoe repair and pedicure departments. The factory made ladies', men's, children's and sports shoes. So that the employees could live near the factory, Bata built a town of 130 homes, separated from the centre of Best by the canal, along with schools, medical services and a hairdressers'. Bata built other such villages wherever it had factories. Bata promoted order and cleanliness. Thus, the houses in the village have flat roofs, as attics would only encourage people to store clutter. The workers were not allowed to wear clogs, as Bata produced suitable footwear. The emphasis on hygiene can be seen as paternalistic but resulted in a level of welfare that was far ahead of its time. The company also established sports clubs, a theatre, a brass band and a volunteer fire brigade.From the 1960s shoe production was moved to low-wage countries and Batadorp was sold to the municipality of Best. The network of shops - even the factory shop - had closed by 1996. The original buildings of Batadorp are now an industrial heritage site.However, production continues at a reduced level. It now belongs to the Bata Protective division which was created in 1970 and makes speciality shoes. In 2008 about 160 employees produced 900,000 pairs of safety shoes and 1 million pairs of safety socks. The headquarters of the global division is located there.

- Batadorp is een wijk in de plaats Best, in de Nederlandse provincie Noord-Brabant. De wijk is in 1934 voor de van oorsprong Tsjecho-Slowaakse schoenenfabriek Bata gebouwd op grond die het bedrijf van de gemeente Best had gekocht. Het dorp is gebouwd naar de socialistische overtuigingen van fabriekseigenaar en Bata-oprichter Tomáš Baťa. Bata zocht uitbreiding in het buitenland, mede om douanetarieven te omzeilen, en bouwde daar fabrieken en complete dorpen. In Nederland, waar Bata vanaf 1922 al actief was met Bata-winkels, koos men voor Best vanwege de lage grondprijs en de aanwezigheid van goedkope arbeidskrachten. Ook de gunstige verkeerssituatie (de aanwezigheid van het Wilhelminakanaal, het Beatrixkanaal en spoorwegen naast het nabije vliegveld Welschap) speelde bij de keuze een rol. Men bouwde er in 1933 een fabriek die een exacte kopie was van de hoofdvestiging te Zlín. Bata bezat toen al 28 schoenwinkels en dit aantal nam toe tot 150 in 1961. Veel Bata winkels hadden een eigen schoenreparatiewerkplaats en een pedicureafdeling. In Best werden dames-, heren- en kinderschoenen, maar ook sportschoenen geproduceerd. Bata liet de wijk bouwen, opdat de medewerkers dicht bij de fabriek konden wonen. Er werden 130 woningen gebouwd, alsmede scholen, een medische dienst en een kapsalon. Bata bouwde wel meer van dergelijke dorpen, overal ter wereld waar het bedrijf vestigingen had. Doordat een brug ontbrak lag Batadorp betrekkelijk geïsoleerd van Best.Orde en netheid werd door Bata op prijs gesteld. Naar verluidt zouden de huizen in dit dorp platte daken hebben; op zolders zou toch alleen maar rommel worden opgeslagen. De arbeiders mochten geen klompen dragen: het alternatief werd door Bata zelf geproduceerd. De eis tot hygiëne kan enerzijds als paternalistisch worden beschouwd, maar anderzijds resulteerde dit in een voorzieningenniveau dat zijn tijd ver vooruit was. Tot de bedrijfsbemoeienis behoorde ook het oprichten van sportverenigingen, een toneelvereniging, een fanfare en een vrijwilligersbrandweercorps. Vanaf de jaren 60 van de 20e eeuw verdween de schoenenproductie naar lage-lonenlanden en werd Batadorp aan de gemeente Best verkocht. Het winkelnetwerk verdween eveneens. De laatste Batawinkel werd in 1996 gesloten, op de fabriekswinkel na. De oorspronkelijke bebouwing van Batadorp is nu als industrieel erfgoed een historische bezienswaardigheid. In 2016 werd het grootste deel van Batadorp aangewezen als beschermd dorpsgezicht. De fabriek bleef echter, in afgeslankte vorm, bestaan. Deze behoort nu tot de in 1970 opgerichte divisie: Bata Industrials, die speciaal schoeisel maakt, zoals veiligheidsschoenen. Het hoofdkwartier van de wereldwijd opererende divisie bevindt zich te Best. Ze beschikte in 2008 over 160 medewerkers die jaarlijks 900.000 paar veiligheidsschoenen en 1 miljoen paar veiligheidskousen produceerden. (nl)
