The men's hammer throw at the 1960 Summer Olympics took place on September 2 (qualifying) and September 3 (final) at the Stadio Olimpico. Olympiasieger wurde Wassili Rudenkow aus der Sowjetunion. Er gewann vor dem Ungarn Gyula Zsivótzky und dem Polen Tadeusz Rut. Während Athleten aus Liechtenstein nicht teilnahmen, gingen drei Deutsche, ein Österreicher und ein Schweizer an den Start. Der Schweizer schied ebenso in der Qualifikation aus wie die Deutschen Manfred Losch, Siegfried Lorenz und Klaus Peter.
