- The Armed Forces of the North (Forces Armées du Nord or FAN) was a Chadian rebel army active during the Chadian Civil War. Composed of FROLINAT units that remained loyal to Hissène Habré following his break from Goukouni Oueddei and the CCFAN in 1976. Consisting at first of only a few hundred Toubou and some and Ouaddaïan fighters, FAN began its operations from bases in eastern Chad, where it received help from Sudan. Driven from N'Djamena back to its eastern refuge after the Libyan incursion of 1980, FAN scored a series of victories over Goukouni's Transitional Government of National Unity (GUNT) forces in 1982, which culminated in the recapture of N'Djamena and Habré's assumption of the presidency. FAN became the core of the new national army, Chadian National Armed Forces (FANT), in January 1983. (en)

Les FAN étaient composée d'unités du FROLINAT qui étaient restées loyales à Hissène Habré après sa rupture avec Goukouni Oueddei et le (en) en 1979. D'abord constituées de quelques centaines de combattants Toubou et de quelques et Ouaddaï, Les FAN débutent leurs opérations depuis des bases situées à l'extrême Est du Tchad, où elles reçoivent l'aide du Soudan. Chassées de N'Djaména jusque dans leurs sanctuaires de l'Est après l'incursion libyenne de 1980, les FAN remportent une série de victoires sur les forces du gouvernement d'union nationale de transition (GUNT) de Goukouni Oueddei en 1982, qui aboutit à la reprise de N'Djaména et à l'accession à la présidence de Hissène Habré le 7 juin 1982. Consistindo no início de apenas algumas centenas de combatentes tubus, as Forças Armadas do Norte iniciaram suas operações a partir de bases no leste do Chade, onde recebiam ajuda do Sudão. Expulsos de seu reduto em N'Djamena após a incursão líbia de 1980, as Forças Armadas do Norte obtiveram uma série de vitórias sobre as forças do Governo de União Nacional de Transição (GUNT) de Goukouni em 1982, que culminou com a recaptura de N'Djamena e a ascensão Habré a presidência.
