- Antonio Canepa (Palerm, 25 d'octubre de 1908 - Randazzo, 17 de juny de 1945) fou un professor universitari, partisà i comandant de l'Exèrcit Voluntari per la Independència de Sicília (EVIS), també conegut com a Mario Turri. Estudià amb els jesuïtes i el 1930 es graduà en dret a la Universitat de Palerm amb la tesi Unità e Pluralità degli Ordinamenti Giuridici. S'afilià al Partit Comunista Italià i participà en accions antifeixistes, raó per la qual fou arrestat el 1933 amb el seu germà, però fou alliberat fent-se passar per boig. També fou professor d'història de les doctrines polítiques a la . De 1941 a 1943 fou membre de i treballà per al , participant en accions com la voladura de l'aeroport de Gerbini (Motta Sant'Anastasia). Després marxà a Florència. Quan tornà a Sicília va mantenir contactes amb el Moviment Independentista Sicilià i el 1945 va fundar el primer nucli de l'EVIS. Era un fervent defensor de la reforma agrària, i creia que la idea de la independència tenia una base popular que invariablement han resultat, i va afirmar la necessitat d'estar present dins dels separatistes de manera positiva per fer front a aquestes forces populars. Per això va ser tractat amb una certa fredor de la resta del moviment independentista, més lligada a les grans hisendes. Canepa va ser assassinat el 17 de juny de 1945 en un tiroteig amb la policia a les vuit del matí, al districte "Murazzu Ruttu" vora Randazzo (CT) sobre la carretera nacional 120 de Cesarò (ME). Amb ell va morir el seu braç dret i comandant en cap de l'EVIS Carmelo Rosano (22 anys) i el jove Giuseppe Lo Giudice (18 anys). Després del tiroteig, es va quedar hores sense ajuda i es va dessagnar fins a morir. Fou enterrat al cementiri de Catània, al panteó d'homes il·lustres. (ca)
- Antonio Canepa (Palermo, 25 October 1908 – Randazzo, 17 June 1945) was a Sicilian politician, revolutionary, professor and writer, known as one of the most important advocates of the Sicilian nationalism. He was the leader of the socialist faction of the Movement for the Independence of Sicily (Movimento per l'Indipendenza della Sicilia) and the founder of the (Esercito Volontario per l'Indipendenza della Sicilia, EVIS). He studied at the Jesuits in Palermo and then at the . He graduated in law in Palermo in 1930 discussing a thesis entitled Unity or plurality of legal systems?. He was in contact with anti-fascist groups with whom he wanted to organize in 1933 a coup d'état in the Republic of San Marino, for the sole purpose of demonstrating the active presence of forces opposed to the fascist regime. The plan was foiled and Canepa was arrested on June 17, 1933 along with his brother Luigi and other exponents, who were sentenced to sentences of two to four years in prison, while Canepa, pretending to be infirm mind, was hospitalized in an asylum until November 1934. In 1942, under the alias of Mario Turri, he published the pamphlet "La Sicilia ai Siciliani" (Sicily for the Sicilians), an important separatist manifesto. He was killed in Randazzo in 1945 during a gunfight with the Carabinieri. According to recent studies, the idea is highlighted that in the murder of the leader of EVIS there is the combined hand of international secret services because the Yalta agreements had already established that Sicily should be part of Italy, therefore it was necessary to neutralize the separatist outbreaks. On the site of the massacre stands a cippo dedicated to the fallen of EVIS Antonio Canepa is buried in the cemetery of Catania, in the avenue of illustrious Sicilians, next to Giovanni Verga and Angelo Musco. His son , born in 1940, was a Socialist MP for three terms, but died at the age of 43 from an overdose. (en)
