- Ilja Mohandas "Andy" Hoepelman (born March 26, 1955) is a Dutch former Olympic water polo player and current professor in Medicine, subspecialty Infectious Diseases. He has more than 500 peer reviewed articles on his name. He won an Olympic bronze medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics as part of the Dutch men's team. He is with his Masters team HZC de Robben European champion in Istanbul (2011), Budapest (2013), Rijeka (2016) and Kranj (2018). In 2015 the team became world Champion in Kazan. From 2012-2016 he was a member of the LEN TWPC (Technical Waterpolo Committee). Since 2017 he has been a member of the FINA TWPC, where his interest is in modernizing Waterpolo rules, education of referees and beach water polo.He was cofounder and chairman of the regional Waterpolo training Centre "Talent Centraal" until 2015 when TC was discontinued. In 2018 he founded together with others a regional Waterpolo training center where he currently serves as chairman. Since July 2020 he has been chairman of the Dutch Waterpolo club UZSC, 6 times champion in the Netherlands since 2014. (en)
- Ilja Mohandas (Andy) Hoepelman (Hilversum, 26 maart 1955) is een Nederlandse waterpolospeler. Andy Hoepelman nam eenmaal deel aan de Olympische Spelen in 1976. Hij eindigde met het Nederlands team op de derde plaats. Na zijn interlandloopbaan is hij internationaal scheidsrechter geworden. Hoepelman bleef echter waterpoloën en in [2007], 2009 (Istanboel), 2013 (Budapest), 2016 (Rijeka) en 2018 (Kranj)werd hij met zijn team Europees Waterpolo Kampioenschap Masters.In 2015 werd hij met HZC de Robben wereldkampioen.Hij is (mede)oprichter en voorzitter van het regionale waterpolo-opleidingscentrum “Talent Centraal” in Midden-Nederland waar bijna 100 kinderen tot 18 jaar worden opgeleid voor topwaterpolo (tot 2015). In 2018 richtte hij met anderen de Regionale Waterpoloschool en Regionaal Trainingscentrum Midden op waar hij voorzitter is. Van 2012 tot 2016 was hij lid van de Technical Waterpolo Committee (TWPC) van de LEN. In 2017 werd hij lid van de FINA Technical waterpolo committee waar hij zich bezighoudt met spelregelwijziging en het stimuleren van Beach Waterpolo. Vanaf juli 2020 is hij voorzitter van de Utrechtse waterpolovereniging UZSC. Prof dr. Andy IM Hoepelman was Medisch Afdelingshoofd van de Afdeling Inwendige Geneeskunde & Infectieziekten in het UMC te Utrecht (2000-2017).Vanaf 2017 is hij Hoofd van de onderafdeling Infectieziekten in het UMC Utrecht.Hij promoveerde in 1989 op het proefschrift “Iron & Infection”. In zijn oratie in 1998 wees hij op de gevolgen van de globalisering op het risico van een toename van Infectieziekten. Daarnaast vestigde hij de aandacht op de mogelijkheden van bioterrorisme en de gevolgen voor het milieu.Een aantal jaren is hij actief geweest als plaatsvervangend opleider in de Inwendige Geneeskunde en sinds 1985 is hij opleider in de Infectieziekten in het UMCU.Hij is redacteur van het Nederlandse leerboek Microbiologie & Infectieziekten en editor van “The International Textbook of Microbiology & Infectious Diseases”.Hij was secretaris van de European Study Group on Viral Hepatitis (ESGVH) onderdeel van the European Society of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) tot 2013.Ook is hij redacteur van diverse internationale tijdschriften op het gebied van de Infectieziekten. Van zijn hand verschenen meer dan 500 internationale publicaties. Tot 2018 promoveerden er meer dan 50 personen bij hem.Van 2007-2013 was hij actief als coördinator van het Regionale overleg Acute Zorg (ROAZ) in de provincie Utrecht en coördineert hij namens het UMCU de contacten met de 1e lijn.
