- Andreas Georgiou (griechisch Ανδρέας Γεωργίου, * 1960 in Patras) ist ein griechischer Wirtschaftswissenschaftler. Er wurde am 2. August 2010 Präsident der griechischen Statistikbehörde ELSTAT. Am 2. August 2015 legte er sein Amt überraschend mit sofortiger Wirkung nieder. Er werde auch nicht kommissarisch im Amt bleiben. Im Juli 2016 entschied der Areopag (oberstes Gericht der Zivil- und Strafgerichtsbarkeit in Griechenland), Georgiou müsse sich wegen Verletzung des „nationalen Interesses“ verantworten. Im Juni 2018 wurde er vom Areopag zu zwei Jahren Haft, ausgesetzt auf Bewährung, verurteilt. Gegen das Urteil ist keine Berufung möglich; der Fall Georgiou könnte noch den Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte (EGMR) beschäftigten. (de)

Georgiou is a visiting lecturer and visiting scholar at Amherst College where he teaches statistical ethics and macroeconomics. He is also elected member of the Council of the International Statistical Institute and a member of the Committee on Professional Ethics of the American Statistical Association. (en)

Le 2 août 2010, il est nommé président de l'Autorité Hellénique des Statistiques (ELSTAT). Il démissionne de ses fonctions le 2 août 2015. En juillet 2016, le grec de la Cour Suprême confirme les poursuites judiciaires contre Georgiou pour avoir nui à "l'intérêt national", avec une peine encourue de 10 ans de prison. En août 2017, il est condamné à deux ans de prison avec sursis. Ces accusations sont critiquées par les autorités européennes, par de nombreux organismes statistiques (telles que l'American Statistical Association) ainsi que des associations de défense des droits de l'homme, pour qui M. Georgiou est devenu le bouc émissaire de la classe politique grecque". En juin 2018, la Cour de cassation a confirmé la sentence. (fr)
