- Els ampulícids (Ampulicidae) són una família d'himenòpters apòcrits. És un grup petit (unes 200 espècies) principalment tropical de vespes apoidees. Són vespes paràsites, totes usen paneroles com a preses per alimentar a les seves larves. Tenen mandíbules allargades, una constricció semblant a un coll darrere del cap, solcs al tòrax i un abdomen amb un pecíol marcat. Moltes s'assemblen a les formigues altres tenen un brillant color blau o verda maragda. (ca)

Die Gruppe wird von manchen Autoren als Unterfamilie der Familie Sphecidae betrachtet, ihre taxonomische Stellung ist bislang nicht vollständig geklärt. - The Ampulicidae, or cockroach wasps, are a small (about 170 species), primarily tropical family of sphecoid wasps, all of which use various cockroaches as prey for their larvae. They tend to have elongated jaws, pronounced neck-like constrictions behind the head, strongly petiolate abdomens, and deep grooves on the thorax. Many are quite ant-like in appearance, though some are brilliant metallic blue, green, and hot pink. Most species sting the roach more than once and in a specific way. The first sting is directed at nerve ganglia in the cockroach's thorax, temporarily paralyzing the victim for a few minutes - more than enough time for the wasp to deliver a second sting. The second sting is directed into a region of the cockroach's brain that controls the escape reflex, among other things. When the cockroach has recovered from the first sting, it makes no attempt to flee. The wasp clips the antenna with its mandibles and drinks some of the haemolymph before walking backwards and dragging the roach by its clipped antenna to steer it to a burrow, where an egg will be laid on it. The wasp larva feeds on the subdued, living cockroach. (en)
- Los ampulícidos (Ampulicidae) son una familia pequeña (unas 200 especies) de himenópteros apócritos. En inglés se las llama avispas de las cucarachas ("cockroach wasps"). Es un grupo principalmente tropical de avispas apoideas. Son avispas parásitas, todas usan cucarachas como presas para alimentar a sus larvas. Tienen mandíbulas alargadas, una constricción semejante a un cuello detrás de la cabeza, canaletas en el tórax y un abdomen con un pecíolo marcado. Muchas se parecen a las hormigas otras tienen un brillante color azul o verde esmeralda. La mayoría de las especies pican a la cucaracha y le inyectan su veneno. Después caminan marcha atrás arrastrando a su presa hasta llegar al nido. A veces se ha observado que la cucaracha no está muerta sino paralizada. Almacenan el nido con una o varias cucarachas y luego de depositar un huevo lo cierran con material vegetal. Se destaca la especie Ampulex compressa, también llamada avispa esmeralda, por su comportamiento con las presas. Inyecta un veneno generalizado que debilita a la cucaracha y después inyecta un segundo veneno cuidadosamente en el cerebro de su víctima con el cual la cucaracha queda paralizada pero capaz de movimientos automáticos. Luego procede a cortar la mayor parte de las antenas. Tomando los muñones con sus mandíbulas va guiando a la cucaracha la cual la sigue caminando hasta su cueva. Allí, deposita un huevo. La larva se alimenta de la cucaracha paralizada pero viva. Emerge como adulto. (es)
