- Alexander Rubel (b. 27 December 1969) is a German-Romanian historian of the Antiquity. Alexander Rubel studied History, Germanistics and Philosophy at the University of Konstanz. He was a researcher at the Department of Ancient History of the University of Konstanz. In 2000 he relocated to Iași, Romania, as Director of the Iași branch of the Goethe-Institut. He became a DAAD lecturer at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University. He is presently the director of the German Cultural Center in Iași., researcher at and Director of the Iași Institute of Archaeology. Alexander Rubel studierte Geschichte, Germanistik und Philosophie an der Universität Konstanz. 1996 wurde er dort wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Alte Geschichte. 2000 wurde er mit der Arbeit Stadt in Angst. Religion und Politik in Athen während des Peloponnesischen Krieges bei Wolfgang Schuller promoviert. Anschließend ging er nach Rumänien, wo er in Iași eine Zweigstelle des Goethe-Instituts aufbaute. Danach wurde er als DAAD-Stipendiat Lektor an der Universität Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iași. Mittlerweile ist er Leiter des Deutschen Kulturzentrums Iaşi und zugleich Professor am dortigen Institut für Archäologie der Rumänischen Akademie. Rubel befasst sich vorrangig mit kulturhistorischen Themen und der Geschichte des antiken Dakiens. Er leitet die Ausgrabungen zur römischen Militärpräsenz in der Region. (de)
