- The Alara Castle (Turkish: Alara Kalesi), is a historic fortification located at Alanya district of Antalya Province in southern Turkey. The castle was built under the Byzantine Empire, and in the 11th century became the western outpost of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia (1080-1375). It had the function to safeguard the caravans from holdup robberies that were stopping over at the last caravanserai on the Silk Road to the sea, situated 300–400 m (980–1,310 ft) in the south. The castle incorporates a citadel inside the outer walls. The castle's inside is reached by some 180-step stairway, which is tunneled in the rock. Around the middle of the stairway, a deepening opens to a cistern. In the citadel, a palace, accommodation facilities for the garrison, a mosque and a bath are among the ruins. It is located 35 km (22 mi) southeast of Manavgat, 37 km (23 mi) northwest of Alanya and 7 km (4.3 mi) away from the Mediterranean Sea. Situated atop a steep massive rock at the east bank of Alara River, the castle was hard to win. The lord of the castle gave it however up in 1231 as he realized that Seljuk Sultan of Rum Alaeddin Keykubad I (reigned 1220–1237) had conquered Alanya. The regional government of Antalya considered in 2011 the restoration of Alara Castle and its subsequent opening to the public as a place of interest. (en)

Το κάστρο χτίστηκε από την Βυζαντινή Αυτοκρατορία τον 11ο αιώνα κι έπειτα έγινε το δυτικό φυλάκιο του αρμενικού Βασιλείου της Κιλικίας (1080 - 1375). Ο Σκοπός του ήταν να προστατεύσει τα καραβάνια από ληστείες που ακολουθούσαν το Δρόμο του Μεταξιού προς τη θάλασσα. Βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 300-400 μέτρων, το κάστρο ενσωματώνει μια ακρόπολη εντός των εξωτερικών τειχών. Το εσωτερικό του κάστρου είναι προσβάσιμο από μία σκάλα με 180 σκαλοπάτια χτισμένη πάνω στο βράχο. Γύρω από τη τη σκάλα υπάρχει μια δεξαμενή. Στην ακρόπολη βρίσκεται ένα παλάτι, εγκαταστάσεις διαμονής για την φρουρά, ένα τζαμί και ένα λουτρό σήμερα ερειπωμένα. Βρίσκεται 35 χιλιόμετρα νοτιοανατολικά από το , 37 χιλιόμετρα βορειοδυτικά της Αλάγια και 7 χιλιόμετρα μακριά από τη Μεσόγειο Θάλασσα. Στην κορυφή ενός απόκρημνου πελώριου βράχου στην ανατολική όχθη του ποταμού , το κάστρο ήταν δύσκολο να κατακτηθεί. Ο άρχοντας του κάστρου το παρέδωσε ωστόσο μέχρι το 1232, όταν ο ίδιος συνειδητοποίησε ότι ο Σελτζούκος σουλτάνος του Ικονίου είχε κατακτήσει την Αλάνια. Η περιφερειακή κυβέρνηση της Αττάλειας το 2011 αποφάσισε την αποκατάσταση του κάστρου και μετέπειτα άνοιγμα του στο κοινό ως ένα μέρος ενδιαφέροντος. (el)
- Alara Kalesi (deutsch: Burg Alara) ist eine Burganlage rund 37 Kilometer westlich der türkischen Stadt Alanya in der Provinz Antalya. Die Anlage wurde zu byzantinischer Zeit erbaut, war dann westlicher Vorposten des Königreichs Kleinarmenien und hatte später den Zweck, die Sicherheit der durchziehenden Karawanen zu gewährleisten. Die Burg liegt auf einem steilen Hügel am und war nahezu uneinnehmbar. Dennoch fiel sie 1232 den Seldschuken in die Hände, als der Burgherr aufgab, nachdem er davon erfahren hatte, dass die Stadt Alanya Kai Kobad I. in die Hände gefallen war. (de)
