- برنامج علوم التنقلات الجوية يدار برنامج من قبل مركز أبحاث الطيران نيل إيه أرمسترونغ التابع لناسا في إدواردز بولاية كاليفورنيا. ويدعم البرنامج متطلبات الطيران شبه المداري لشركة علوم الأرض التابعة لناسا. تحتفظ درايدن وتدير طائرتين «لوكهيد يو-2» لمحاكاة «الأقمار الصناعية المحاكاة» على ارتفاع عالٍ ودوغلاس دي سي-8 الذي تم تكوينه خصيصاً ليكون بمثابة «مختبر طيران». وتشمل التخصصات العلمية التي تستخدم هذه الطائرات علوم الأرض وعلم الفلك وكيمياء الغلاف الجوي وعلم المناخ وعلم المحيطات وعلم الآثار والبيئة والغابات والجغرافيا والجيولوجيا والهيدرولوجيا والأرصاد الجوية وعلم البراكين وعلم الأحياء. كما يعتبر جهازا دوغلاس دي سي-8 ولوكهيد يو-2 من الأدوات الهامة لتطوير أجهزة الاستشعار حيث تهدف إلى التحليق على متن أقمار صناعية لرصد الأرض في المستقبل وللتحقق من صحة ومعايرة أجهزة الاستشعار التي تستخدم على متن الأقمار الصناعية التي تدور حول الأرض في الوقت الراهن. - NASA's Airborne Science Program is administered from the NASA Neil A. Armstrong Flight Research Center, in Edwards, California. The program supports the sub-orbital flight requirements of NASA's Earth Science Enterprise. Dryden maintains and operates two ER-2 high-altitude "satellite simulator" aircraft and a DC-8 which is specially configured as a "flying laboratory". The scientific disciplines that employ these aircraft include Earth sciences, astronomy, atmospheric chemistry, climatology, oceanography, archeology, ecology, forestry, geography, geology, hydrology, meteorology, volcanology and biology. The DC-8 and ER-2 are also important tools for the development of sensors intended to fly aboard future Earth-observing satellites, and to validate and calibrate the sensors which are used onboard satellites which currently orbit the Earth. - Het Airborne Science Program is een programma dat de suborbitale ruimtevluchten ondersteunt met behulp van twee ER-2 vliegtuigen en een DC-8-vlieglaboratorium. Het instituut wordt geleid door het Dryden Flight Research Center van de NASA in Edwards, Californië. De wetenschappelijke disciplines die bij het programma zijn betrokken, zijn de astronomie, , klimatologie, oceanografie, archeologie, ecologie, bosbouw, aardrijkskunde, geologie, hydrologie, meteorologie, vulkanologie en biologie.
