- عجلة الهواء (بالإنجليزية: Air caster) هو جهاز رفع هوائي يستخدم لنقل الأحمال الثقيلة على الأسطح المستوية، غير قابلة للاختراق. عملها مشابهة للحوامات، كما أنه يستخدم طبقة رقيقة من الهواء كوسيلة لتطفو على بعد مسافة صغيرة جدا من الأرض. يدخل الهواء المضغوط وسادة هوائية على شكل طارة، و عندما يزيد الهواء إلى وسط طارةيقوم برفع الحمل فوق سطح الأرض. - An air caster is a pneumatic lifting device used to move heavy loads on flat, non-porous surfaces. Its operation is similar to a hovercraft, as it uses a thin layer of air as a way to float a very small distance off the ground. Compressed air enters an airbag shaped like a torus, and when the bag is filled it creates an airtight seal with the ground, and forces more air into the center of torus, eventually causing the air to flow over the bag and to raise the load above the ground. The compressed air is forced under the airbag, pushing it and the load less than a millimeter off the ground. (en)
- Un pattino ad aria è un dispositivo pneumatico di sollevamento e trasporto, che si usa per muovere carichi pesanti su superfici piane e non porose. Il funzionamento è simile a quello di un hovercraft, perché utilizza un sottile strato d'aria sul quale galleggia a pochissima distanza dal suolo. Dell'aria compressa viene insufflata in una sacca di forma torica in elastomero e, quando la sacca è gonfia, si crea una tenuta con il suolo, che impedisce all'aria di uscire, finché questa fuoriesce fra la sacca ed il suolo, creando un film di aria sul quale il carico galleggia senza contatto con il suolo. Questo dispositivo è una derivazione di quello che equipaggiava l'Aerotreno: l'esperienza acquisita con quel progetto, dopo il suo abbandono, si è trasferita nei pattini ad aria per movimentazione industriale, per uso prevalente in ambiente coperto.
