- عباس فاضل (بالفرنسية: Abbas Fahdel) هو مخرج وناقد سينمائي وكاتب سيناريو عراقي ولد في مدينة الحلة، محافظة بابل، العراق. انتقل عندما كان يبلغ من العمر 18عاما إلى فرنسا، حيث استقر منذ ذلك الحين ونال شهاده الدكتوراه من جامعة السوربون في اختصاص السينما بعد دراسته تحت اشراف مخرجين كبار مثل وجان روش. بعد العمل لسنوات عديده كمحاضر وناقد سينمائي في الصحافة الفرنسية والعربيه، توجه نحو الإخراج التلفيزيوني والسينمائي.في كانون الثاني/ يناير 2002 عاد إلى العراق لتصوير فيلمة الوثائقي «العودة إلى بابل»، والذي يتساءل فيه: «ماذا أصبح اصدقاء طفولتي؟ كيف تغيرت حياتهم؟» الحالة الماساويه للبلد هي خلفية هذا التحقيق الذي يستعرض فيه المخرج آثار الحرب العراقية الإيرانية وحرب الخليج الثانية والحصار المفروض من جانب الأمم المتحدة. بعد عام، عند وقوع حرب جديدة، عاد عباس فاضل إلى العراق من جديد ليكتشف بلد هزه العنف وغني بكل المحتملات. هذه اللحظة التاريخية هي موضوع فيلمة الوثائقي الثاني الذي سماه «نحن العراقيون» تاكيدا على هويته. في عام 2008 اخرج فيلمة الروائي الطويل «فجر العالم»، دراما جندي عراقي من الناجين من حرب الخليج، والذي صوره في مصرلاستحاله إمكانيه تصويره في العراق بسبب تردي الأوضاع الأمنية في البلد اّنذاك. في عام 2015 حاز فيلمه الجديد «وطن (العراق السنة صفر)» على جائزة أفضل فيلم في المسابقة الدوليه لمهرجان رؤى الواقع. أفلام عباس فاضل نالت عده جوائز وشاركت في مهرجانات دوليه في فرنسا وإيطاليا وألمانيا وبلجيكا والبرتغال والبرازيل وكوريا الجنوبية وتونس والمغرب ولبنان والإمارات العربية... - Abbas Fadhel (Arabic عباس فاضل) is an Iraqi-French film director, screenwriter and film critic, born in Babylon, Iraq. Based in France since the age of 18 years, he studied cinema at the Sorbonne University until Ph.D. In January 2002, he returned to Iraq with a French passport and filmed a documentary film, Back to Babylon (film), in which he asked himself: "What have my childhood friends become? How have their lives changed? What would my life have been like if I hadn't chosen to build my destiny elsewhere?" The country's dramatic situation is the background of this introspective investigation. One year later, in February 2003, when a new war seems imminent, Abbas Fadhel returned to Iraq with the intention of filming his family and friends, and the superstitious hope of protecting them against the dangers threatening them. When the war started, he returned to France and lost all contact with his family. Two months later, he again returned to Iraq and discovered a country shaken by violence, the nightmare of dictatorship replaced by chaos, but a country where, nonetheless, everything remains possible: the best or the worse. This historical moment is the theme of his second documentary film, We Iraqis. In 2008, he directed the feature film Dawn of the World, a war-drama in which he gives an unexpected account of the multiple impacts of the Gulf Wars and how they have dramatically damaged an area known to be the geographic location of the biblical Garden of Eden. In 2015, his new film Homeland (Iraq Year Zero), a monumental documentary of 334 minutes, is awarded at Visions du réel - Nyon International Film Festival. (en)

Im Alter von achtzehn Jahren ging er nach Frankreich und studierte und promovierte in der Filmwissenschaft an der Sorbonne. Nach mehreren Jahren journalistischer Tätigkeit und nachdem er einige Kurzfilme gedreht (Things in the shadow, Weegee’s World, Sunday at a suburban café), kehrte er im Januar 2002 in sein Land zurück. Dort drehte er den Dokumentarfilm Retour à Babylone und nach dem Einmarsch der Amerikaner die Dokumentation (2004). Dawn of the World (2008) ist sein erster Spielfilm und wurde 2009 beim Festival International du Film Asiatique de Vesoul (Bestes Drehbuch), beim Rabat International Film Festival (Großer Preis der Jury) und beim Gulf Film Festival (Bester Film) ausgezeichnet.
