- The AIS-SART is a self-contained radio device used to locate a survival craft or distressed vessel by sending updated position reports using a standard Automatic Identification System (AIS) class-A position report. The position and time synchronization of the AIS-SART are derived from a built in GNSS receiver (e.g. GPS).Shipboard Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) installations include one or more search and rescue locating devices. These devices may be either an AIS-SART (AIS Search and Rescue Transmitter) (from January 1, 2010), or a radar-SART (Search and Rescue Transponder). The AIS-SART derives position and time synchronization from a built in GNSS receiver. Once per minute, the position is sent as a series of eight identical position report messages (four on 161.975 MHz and four on 162.025 MHz). This scheme creates a high probability that at least one of the messages is sent on the highest point of a wave. AIS SARTs are typically cylindrical and brightly colored. A typical model is 251mm (about 10 inches) high and weighs 450g (about a pound). The specification (IEC 61097-14 Ed 1.0) for AIS-SART was developed by the IEC's TC80 AIS work group. - Ein AIS-SART (Automatic Identification System – Search And Rescue Transmitter, englisch für ‚Automatisches Identifizierungssystem – Such- und Rettungssender‘) ist ein Gerät, das auf Basis des Protokolls des Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) eine positionsbezogene Notfallmeldung aussendet. Die Positions- und Zeitsynchronisation des AIS-SART erfolgt über ein eingebautes GPS-Modul. Die Position des in Seenot befindlichen Rettungsbootes oder einer Person mit einem AIS-SART in der Rettungsweste wird über den AIS-Empfänger oder AIS-Sender/-Empfänger an den PC oder an den Kartenplotter als serielles Protokoll weitergeleitet und damit dann am Plotter oder am PC sichtbar. Somit lässt sich durch jedes Schiff, welches AIS an Bord hat, eine sofortige Rettungsaktion einleiten, wodurch die Überlebenschancen enorm erhöht werden. Die Einführung des Systems wurde nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 von Seiten der USA forciert. Inzwischen sind alle Berufsschiffe weltweit mit AIS ausgestattet, in Zentraleuropa auch alle Behördenwasserfahrzeuge und SAR-Einheiten. In den letzten Jahren nahm auch der Ausstattungsgrad der Sportboote mit AIS zu. Der AIS-SART erhält seine Positions- und Zeitsynchronisation durch einen eingebauten GPS-Empfänger. Die Position wird pro Minute in einer Serie von acht identischen Positionsmeldungen (vier auf 161,975 MHz und vier auf 162,025 MHz) ausgesendet. Dadurch wird die Möglichkeit erhöht, dass mindestens eine Meldung am höchsten Punkt der Meereswelle ausgesendet wird. (de)

Las siglas AIS-SART que proceden del inglés describen dos conjuntos de palabras: AIS, Automatic Identification System, que traducidas al español significan Sistema de Identificación Automática; y SART, "Search and Rescue Transmiter", Transmisor de Búsqueda y Rescate. Un AIS SART es un dispositivo que, con base en protocolos de AIS envía mensajes de emergencia relacionados con la posición de la víctima. La sincronización de tiempo y posición del AIS SART se realiza a través de un módulo GPS integrado. La posición del bote o de una persona con el dispositivo AIS SART en su Chaleco salvavidas en situación de emergencia será transmitida al PC o al plotter a través de un receptor AIS o un transpondedor AIS como un protocolo serial redirigido y por lo tanto visible en el PC o en el plotter. De esta manera puede desatarse de inmediato una acción de rescate desde cualquier embarcación que tenga a bordo el sistema AIS, lo cual eleva enormemente los chances de supervivencia de personas en situación de emergencia Todos los barcos comerciales a nivel mundial están equipados con dispositivos AIS, en Europa Central incluso las embarcaciones oficiales y las unidades SAR cuentan con el sistema. En los últimos años ha aumentado considerablemente el número de embarcaciones de esparcimiento que también han adoptado el AIS, de acuerdo a los expertos, se habla de aproximadamente 15% del total.El módulo de recepción GPS integrado, le permite al AIS SART sincronizar posición y tiempo. La posición es enviada cada minuito en una serie de 8 mensajes idénticos (cuatro en los 161,975 MHz y cuatro en los 162,025 MHz). De esa forma se elevará la posibilidad de que, al menos, uno de los mensajes sea enviado en el punto más alto de las olas marinas. (es)
