- Parliamentary elections were held in Guatemala on 14 August 1994, following the premature dissolution of Congress during the 1993 constitutional crisis, and in view of implementing constitutional reforms approved in January 1994. The result was a victory for the Guatemalan Republican Front, which won 33 of the 80 seats. Voter turnout was just 21%. The 1993 constitutional crisis started on 25 May 1993, when the then President Jorge Serrano Elías attempted a self-coup or autogolpe. Serrano suspended the constitution, dissolved Congress and the Supreme Court, imposed censorship and tried to restrict civil liberties. Serrano's actions were met with broad national and international opposition and ruled "illegal" by the Constitutional Court of Guatemala, following which Serrano was forced to resign. (en)
- El domingo 14 de agosto de 1994 se celebraron elecciones legislativas en Guatemala tras la disolución anticipada del Congreso durante la crisis constitucional de 1993, y en vista de la aplicación de las reformas constitucionales aprobadas en el referéndum constitucional del 30 de enero de 1994. Las elecciones resultaron en una victoria para el Frente Republicano Guatemalteco, que obtuvo 33 de los 80 escaños. La participación electoral fue sólo el 21%. La crisis constitucional de 1993 comenzó el 25 de mayo de 1993, cuando el entonces presidente Jorge Serrano Elías (1991-1993) intentó un autogolpe. Serrano Elías suspendió la Constitución, disolvió el Congreso, la Corte Suprema de Justicia y la Corte de Constitucionalidad, impuso la censura y trató de restringir las libertades civiles. Las acciones de Serrano fueron duramente criticados por una amplia oposición nacional y internacional. Serrano fue obligado a renunciar tras la sentencia de la Corte de Constitucionalidad de Guatemala que se pronunció en contra del autogolpe. (es)

Конституционный кризис в Гватемале возник, когда президент Хорхе Серрано попытался захватить в стране полную власть, отменив действующую Конституцию, распустив парламент и Верховный суд, ввёл цензуру и пытался ограничить гражданские свободы.
