- 1989 Dakar Rally also known as the 1989 Paris–Dakar Rally was the 11th running of the Dakar Rally event. The course went through Libya for the first time. A record 209 of the 473 competitors completed the rally. The result of the rally was controversially decided by Peugeot Talbot Sport boss Jean Todt who decided the result on the toss of a coin. The rally was won by 1981 world rally champion, Ari Vatanen. The motorcycle class was won by Gilles Lalay. (en)

Die Strecke führte über 10.831 km (davon 6.605 Wertungskilometer) durch Frankreich, Tunesien, Libyen, Niger, Mali, Guinea und Senegal. An der Rallye nahmen insgesamt 473 Teilnehmer – 241 PKW, 155 Motorräder und 77 Assistenz-LKW teil. Davon erreichten 209 das Ziel, was einen neuen Rekord darstellte. (de)
- El Rally Dakar de 1989, la undécima edición de esta carrera rally raid, se realizó del 25 de diciembre de 1988 al 12 de enero del año siguiente. El trayecto total de esta versión, que se extendió entre París y Dakar, fue de 10 831 km y se disputó por rutas de Francia, España, Túnez, Gran Yamahiriya Árabe Libia Popular Socialista (actual Libia), Níger, Malí, Guinea y Senegal. Participaron en total 241 coches y 155 motocicletas, de los cuales llegaron a la final 100 y 60, respectivamente. (es)

- Rajd Dakar 1989 (Rajd Paryż - Dakar 1989) - jedenasta edycja pustynnego Rajdu Dakar, która odbyła się na trasie Paryż - Tunis - Dakar. Po raz pierwszy trasa rajdu prowadziła przez Libię. W klasyfikacji samochodów tryumfował Ari Vatanen, zaś w klasyfikacji motocyklistów Gilles Lalay. W rajdzie tym padł nowy rekord: Rajd ukończyło 209 z 473 uczestników. W rajdzie planowano start polskich załóg, podobnie jak w poprzednich dwóch rajdach. Trzy załogi miały wystartować na samochodach Jelcz: dwie załogi na samochodach Jelcz S442 (tych samych, co w dwóch poprzednich latach) oraz dwie na nowym modelu. Dwie załogi miały wystartować na nowym modelu Star 266c 4x4 „Unistar”. Do startu nie doszło głównie na skutek zmiany przepisów wyścigu (np. zakaz startu modeli prototypowych). (pl)
