- Early general elections were held in Jamaica on 15 December 1983. The election was effectively ended as a contest when the main opposition party, the People's National Party, boycotted the election to protest the refusal of the ruling Jamaican Labour Party to update the electoral roll amid allegations of voter fraud. Several minor parties participated in the election, but they only contested six of the 60 seats: with voter turnout of about 55%, this gave a nationwide figure of a meagre 2.7%. The Labour Party won all 60 seats in the House of Representatives, with their leader, Edward Seaga, continuing as Prime Minister. (en)

Выборы бойкотировала главная оппозиционная партия, Народная национальная партия, в знак протеста против отказа правящей Лейбористской партии Ямайки обновить избирательные списки. Несмотря на то, что некоторые мелкие партии участвовали в выборах, из-за бойкота со стороны ННП в большинстве округов был выставлен всего один кандидат, выборы между представителями Лейбористской партии и независимыми кандидатами происходили всего в 6 из 60 округов, и явка на выборах составила всего 2,7%. При этом следует помнить, что в округах, где альтернативные выборы состоялись, явка составляла около 55%. Лейбористская партия все равно получила все 60 мест в парламенте, а её лидер, Эдвард Сиага, остался в кресле премьер-министра. (ru)
