- 1980 saw the inaugural national football championship in Vietnam known locally as the Vietnam National A1 Football Cup. Seventeen teams took part in the competition that was played in two stages; a Group stage featuring 3 groups of 6 and 5 teams and a Championship stage featuring the three group winners. Originally there are 18 teams, with 8 from Hồng Hà League in the North, 2 from Trường Sơn League in the Central and 8 from Cửu Long League in the South. However, defending all-Vietnam champions Thể Công (Câu lạc bộ Quân đội) withdrawn due to internal reasons. (en)

C'est le club de qui remporte le championnat après avoir terminé en tête du classement de la poule finale, devant Công An Hà Nội et Hai Quan. - V.League 1 (1980) – pierwsza edycja najwyższej piłkarskiej klasy rozgrywkowej w Wietnamie. W rozgrywkach wzięło udział 17 drużyn, grając systemem mieszanym. Sezon rozpoczął się 1 lutego, a zakończył 1 maja 1980 roku. Pierwszym mistrzem Wietnamu został zespół . Tytuł króla strzelców zdobył , który w barwach klubu strzelił 10 bramek. Rozgrywki toczyły się w dwóch rundach. W pierwszej rundzie brało udział 17 zespołów, które były podzielone na 3 grupy. Po jednej najlepszej drużynie z każdej grupy awansowały do drugiej rundy rozgrywek, natomiast zespoły z ostatnich miejsc spadły z V.League 1. W drugiej rundzie rywalizowały 3 zespoły, z których najlepszy został mistrzem Wietnamu. (pl)
