- انتفاضة الخبز هي مظاهرات وأعمال شغب شعبية ضد الغلاء، جرت في أيام 18 و 19 يناير 1977 في عدة مدن مصرية رفضا لمشروع ميزانية يرفع الأسعار للعديد من المواد الاساسية، حيث ألقى الدكتور عبد المنعم القيسوني، نائب رئيس الوزراء للشؤون المالية والاقتصادية خطاب أمام مجلس الشعب في 17 يناير 1977 بخصوص مشروع الميزانية لذلك العام، أعلن فيه إجراءات تقشفية لتخفيض العجز، وربط هذا بضرورة الاتفاق مع صندوق النقد الدولي والبنك الدولي لتدبير الموارد المالية الإضافية اللازمة. كان رد فعل الشارع على الزيادات أن الناس خرجت للشوارع حتى استجابت الحكومة وتراجعت عن زيادة الأسعار. أطلق الرئيس المصري أنور السادات عليها اسم «ثورة الحرامية» وخرج الإعلام الرسمي يتحدث عن «مخطط شيوعي لإحداث بلبلة واضطرابات في مصر وقلب نظام الحكم» وتم القبض على عدد كبير من النشطاء السياسيين من اليساريين قبل أن تصدر المحكمة حكمها بتبرئتهم. - The Egyptian "bread riots" of 1977 (Arabic: إنتِفاضة الخُبز, intifāḍhat-ul-khobz, “The Bread Intifada”) were a spontaneous uprising against the increase in commodities' prices at the eighteenth and nineteenth of January. The riots were carried out in the Egyptian bigger cities. The decision to cut government's subsidies on basic foodstuff was proposed by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in response to the need to reduce the country's debt and move towards liberalisation and free trade. When the army was deployed on the twentieth of January, order was reestablished. Around 80 people were killed, over 550 injured and approximately 1200 were arrested during the protests. The riots were a violent occurrence. (en)
- As Revoltas do Pão ocorreram no Egito, entre 18 e 19 de Janeiro de 1977, abalando a maioria das grandes cidades do país. Foi uma revolta espontânea de centenas de milhares de pessoas de classe baixa que protestavam contra a recisão de subsídios estatais sobre alimentos básicos. Cerca de 800 pessoas ficaram feridas. Os protestos só acabaram devido a intervenção do exército. As revoltas se originaram devido a política liberal de abertura econômica, conhecida como Infitah, que vinha sendo adotada pelo então presidente Anwar Sadat desde que assumira o poder no início da década de 1970. Em 1976 Sadat buscou emprestimos junto ao Banco Mundial na tentativa de aliviar o impacto das dívidas do país, tendo o banco criticado a política de subsídios estatais sobre os alimentos básicos. Em Janeiro de 1977 Sadat anunciou o fim dos subsídios sobre a farinha, o arroz e o óleo de cozinha e o cancelamento dos bônus dos funcionários públicos e dos aumentos salariais. (pt)

Это были сотни тысяч людей, которые протестовали против Всемирного банка и Международного Валютного Фонда, а именно против решения правительства сократить вдвое субсидии на продукты первой необходимости. В протестах были убиты 79 человек, более 550 были ранены и 1000 арестованы. Субсидии были вновь внесены. (ru)
