- The 103rd Infantry Division (103. Infanterie-Division) was a unit of the Imperial German Army in World War I. The division was formed on May 3, 1915, and organized over the next few weeks. It was part of a wave of new infantry divisions formed in the spring of 1915. The division was disbanded in 1919 during the demobilization of the German Army after World War I. The division was formed primarily from the excess infantry regiments of existing divisions which were being triangularized. The division's 205th Infantry Brigade was formerly the 44th Infantry Brigade of the 22nd Infantry Division, and came to the division with the 32nd Infantry Regiment. The 71st Infantry Regiment came from the 38th Infantry Division and the 116th Reserve Infantry Regiment came from the 25th Reserve Division. The 32nd and 71st Infantry Regiments were Thuringian units, raised in the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, and Prussian Thuringia (part of the Prussian Province of Saxony). - La 103e division d'infanterie est une unité, créée en 1915, de l'armée allemande qui participe à la Première Guerre mondiale. Initialement stationnée sur le front de l'est, la division combat sur le front russe puis en septembre 1915 sur le front serbe, elle atteint la frontière grecque en février 1916. En mars 1916, la 103e division d'infanterie est transférée sur le front de l'ouest et engagée dans les combats autour du fort de Souville en juillet lors de la bataille de Verdun. Elle participe ensuite aux combats du mois de novembre de la bataille de la Somme. La division occupe un secteur du front autour du Chemin des Dames et prend part aux combats du mois de mai et du mois d'octobre 1917. En 1918, la division est engagée dans la Somme, puis sur l'Aisne. Elle renforce la ligne de front allemand lors de la bataille de la Marne, puis prend part aux combats défensifs l'automne de l'armée allemande en Champagne. Après la signature de l'armistice, la division est transférée en Allemagne où elle est dissoute au cours de l'année 1919. (fr)
