- Seasons in the Sun ist die englischsprachige Adaption des Chansons Le moribond („Der Sterbende“) des belgischen Sängers, Komponisten und Liedtexters Jacques Brel aus dem Jahr 1961. Eine deutsche Adaption des Originals von Jacques Brel ist das Lied „Adieu Emile“ von Klaus Hoffmann. Rod McKuen übertrug den Text 1964 für das Kingston Trio ins Englische, die es auch aufnahmen, aber keinen Singleerfolg damit hatten. Andere Bands wie die Fortunes oder Pearls Before Swine nahmen das Lied auf, aber erst 1974 machte sich der Kanadier Terry Jacks daran, das Lied zu bearbeiten und klanglich an die 70er anzupassen. Er änderte auch Teile der letzten Strophe.
